E46 Remapping

From that 2.5 reliably? I wouldn't  The M3 is a much better car all round anyway, there is little point doing anything other than upgrading to that if he wants more power.

BMW did a twin turbo - it was a 3 litre and had 306bhp.

And?

There is a difference between stock twin turbo and someone going a twin turbo route themselves for big power... (and big cost obviously, internals yada yada).

You could make a 1000hp if you spent enough money.

A quick, mini thread hijack... Speaking purely theoretical, would throwing a couple of turbos onto my 2.5 (a) work? (b) last? (c) be worth it? (d) cost much to maintain? (e) anything else?

If its a 6 pot i'm assuming you would mean sequential twins, which, if it hasn't already been done, will cost you an arm and a leg.

Two turbo's, forged rebuild, an intricate manifold, pipework, feeds, coupled with finding the room in the bay, not to mention the difficulty in developing a map for it. Also given BMW's poor rep for cooling systems, that would probably need redesigning :p

RC Developments were looking into doing one for the evo (Smaller one spooling a GT42 or bigger) before they folded, and the time and outlay was immense.

The 330i was quicker than my Brothers 530i by a fraction. Certainly I think the remap made some more ponies, but whether it was an extra 3, 4, 5, 10 or 15 will remain I suspect a mystery.

It had a K&N panel filter too to help things along iirc.

So I'm guessing it's a pretty pointless route to go down then... Was just a thought really, I'm saving for a house and a second car for some fun but didn't actually realise it would take this long to save up enough. Houses are bloody expensive!! lol I thought 40k n bam, mortgage done but man that 40k is taking it's time... (Damn tax man!) :(

So started thinking if I should just mod mine and get a hatch for everyday rather than spending top dollar on an M3/Evo/Porsche/something and using my 325 as an everyday... I mean I can use my savings now n buy a decent weekend thing, but I'd rather get my yard first... still debating the track tool too (16v MkII GTi I'm reckoning). I don't know, just thinking out loud.

But modding mine is pretty pointless you reckon?

The cost for what you want to achieve is silly, when you could buy a more powerful car to start with

That torque curve is tempting. How much is this and what are the chances it will explode my engine?

Seen a couple of tuners on BimmerForums offering remaps for £220.

I bet it would feel different after but over all not that much quicker.

Id looked into it when i had my 330, i was told by the guy who would have done it they can raise the rev limited too, he said obviously not as much as a turbo car but was still noticible

I can't see how the 'gains' would be worth the insurance headache to be honest. Unless remaps are so common they barely make a difference to insurance anymore?

If you are looking at an off the shelf chip I would strongly recommend Motorsport Developments, who have a reseller network throughout the UK.

As to whether you are happy to add stress to an engine that has done a few miles - only you can answer that one! ;)
