My nephew has asked so i thought i would ask the oracles on the forum :) He tried to by a ready made PC from another sourtce but ended up getting his money back

He is after a gamer rig and has a decent monitor a gen copy of win 7 64bit and a Nvidia GTX 260 graphics card.

He has a max of £550 so looked at the pre-built options at overclockers but they all come with a graphics card should he look the AMD or the Intel way ?

Thanks

It is definatly possible! Check out mine (sig)- £450 all in 6 months or so ago. Can play MW2 maxed out +recording gameplay at over 80FPS! Would be more if I overclocked! I also use it effectively for full HD video editing and rendering without a hitch. I also use it for everyday use, so pretty bogged down with useless software too. And its vista 32-bit :O

So for £550, and using the lighter Win7 you could make a pretty beastly PC! Sorry I dont have time to spec, but I would go down the Phenom II route. You could also future proof by whacking in a DX11 ATI card. I have seen DX11 in action, and when they put it in games- it will be amazing!

is he going to overclock it?? if yes then intel is an option, if not then go AMD.

il show a suggested kick ass AMD system, someone will come along and put togehter an intel for you soon :)
This is the fastest quad core AMD do, same average performance as the core i7 920 with both at stock, iv popped in a crossfire motherboard as well just in case he would want that as an option, if not then you could save a bit getting a single PCIE slot board.
Iv added a nice 5.1 surround sound system onto it, just a thought as i love great sound when gaming :)

anyway, just a few suggestions, thats the route i would take i think if i was after a system for that sort of price.

That processor will be future proof and is a bargain at that price. An amazing processor! the above spec is probs the best you can get for price

Wow thanks . Dont think it will be overclocked

These Phenom II chips are ridiculously easy to overclock. I'd suggest at least upping the multiplier one notch on stock voltage - you may aswell take the freebie 0.2gHz boost ;-)

But yeah, that looks like a great rig for the money, considering you're getting a very decent surround sound set with it. If he's not fussed about sound, take that out and put it towards the first upgrade to it, or a couple of games :-)

To the OP, seriously do a bit more research before you buy.
If you're interested in doing a touch of overclocking, the spec below will blow the AMD away

Not to mention you've also got a full sized board with usb3.
