I have never known too much about fans. I currently have a 120mm Akasa fan on my Scythe heatsink, it spins at around 1000rpm all the time.

Would I benefit from getting something like a Scythe Kaze-Jyuni? My current temps at 59c load with a Q6600@3ghz

Do fans and fan speeds make that much of a difference to temperatures?

You might experience some improvement with a better fan but I suspect not that much... not an expert though.

Is the heatsink hot to the touch when you are at load?

Good test, didnt think of that. Ill give it a touch later when i get back from work. I set it going this morning on prime95 fft. It was reached 59c max after 10 minutes but i wonder what 9 hours will do to it. Maybe it will have crashed

I'm guessing if the heatsink is roasting its time for a new fan? The Scythe has a solid heatsink above the cpu block part, then a load of fins. Do i touch the fins or the solid part ( ;))

I reckon touch the fins. If they are really hot then that suggests to me that you need a bit more air flow over them.

Better fans pushing more air will make a difference to temps but you should also look at how good the overall airflow is in your case. Putting a more powerfull fan on the heatsink might not make a lot of difference if your intake fans (if you have any) aren't drawing enough air through the case. Some good cable management can also make a difference to temps if any intake fans are partially blocked by cables, tidying this up will help. If you notice that temps drop by a lot when you take the side cover off your case, then case airflow will likely be your main problem and not so much the cpu fan.
