Can anyone recommend some nice places to go out (for an evening/night) in Bangkok which don't have legions of bar-girls/prostitutes?

I'm back in BKK soon and I want to take my pregnant (not by me!) Thai friend out for a night, and I don't think nana/cowboy would be suitable :D

The problem though is that she's very poor, and I imagine could be confused for a bar-girl if I were to take her to an expensive restaurant. So I'm ideally looking for places which are nice, but are not going to refuse her entry.

Edit: Budget isn't a massive issue, within reason.

I find the better places are those where locals tend to eat are good. Cheap and nice food, after all why would someone local eat in a bad place?

Well yeah, when I was last there we were well off the tourist trail and ate at local places all the time, which had fantastic food and were and dirt cheap. But I want to treat her to a proper (really nice) night out.

They both look amazing. Have you been to them yourself? Which is the better of the two?

Have been to Vertigo and was recommended Scirocco but haven't been there yet

Vertigo has bot a restaurant and bar area, you need to book for the restaurant

we only went to the bar, iirc prices were like UK club prices, some seating can be a bit noisy due to the on roog aircon units aso try and get one away from those ( not bad enough to spoil things though )

Did you have to book much in advance for the restaurant?

I might actually pass on the restaurant (not sure yet) and just take her to the bar. But either way, how busy was it? do you think it would be ok up there for a girl who is 5 months pregnant, or are there a lot of people bumping into each other etc?

the restaurant was solid and almost certainly would need reservations

re her condition then she would be fine, you get a personal escort to your table and it is all waiter/waitress service so there are not folks standing about
