Hi there.
I stepped in this week and helped the company out by building/repairing systems because the engineer has 3 weeks holiday left to take.
I accidentally picked up a system for Thursday next week and built that instead of yesterdays build ( This was put on the wrong pile, but I accept I should have paid more attention.

I was made to deliver said system to the customers house in my own time ( In the company van, which had to be dropped off after wards) This was done tonight in the dark / alone and with only an AA map printout from the web to go by. I got to the address after endless wrong turns etc to find that where I need to park is a gang of people, not sure of there age but hoodies etc so I'm a tad worried in an area I don't know its dark and I have a PC. In all this worry I didn't put the hand break on the van correctly and it rolled into a car ( No damage was caused to the car or the van ) I spoke to my Manager on the phone and advised who said we will look/speak to you about it on Monday.

I'm now worried I'm going to be dragged into the office for a rollocking for a mistake I made outside my contract hours... where do I stand?

Just to add.

I'm constantly under endless pressure to make no mistake's as are all the staff, but they seem to get on at me a little more than the others ( They have noticed this as well ) and its gotten to the point where I'm on anti depressants because I feel so useless. I've mentioned this briefly at work but don't intend on sitting down with them as its a small business ( very small ) and the manager/owner are best friends and its them that's causing the pressure.

I've just moved into my new house and despite struggling to pay the bills I'm loving spending time with my wife to be but I'm not sure how much I can take.

Sounds like you have slightly more pressing issues that need dealing with to be honest, having to be drugged up to handle work everyday is no way to live.
Would it be possible for you to spend a bit of time job hunting while still working at the company?

Tried that to no avail. I work Monday to Friday 10-6 and currently work Saturdays 10-4 due to staffing issues.
2-3 staff have left in the past 6months because of the way there spoken too and have not been replaced.

what the hell are you doing working in your own time, if i were you i'd be looking for a better employer. One that didnt take advantage of you.

Your job is blighting your life. Given your posts and the fact that a significant proportion of the workforce have left because of the way they were treated by the employer, it seems likely that the root of the problem is the employer.

You made an understandable mistake (the handbrake) under circumstances that your employer should not have imposed on you anyway (working without being paid, unreasonable delibery conditions), and the mistake caused no damage. It should not be considered a big deal and they're more at fault than you are.

If I was you, I would start looking for a new job.

Not because you might get sacked because of what happened, but because it makes you so unhappy.

Unless you seriously can't afford to pay bills etc, happiness comes first.

so you're on anti depressants because work is crap, yet you go there 6 days a week?
Find a new job, sounds like an awful workplace to be in.

Thanks for the grown up response's. I am worried they will sack me but on the other hand I don't think they can because of staff levels. But we will see what Monday brings. Are job centers open on Saturday? Otherwise I will pop in on Monday.
Money is tight so quitting without some sort of other job isn't an option. I'm no the benefit type. I like to pay my way.

Not sure if their open at the weekends but check out the job center online to give you an idea of what jobs are around your area

The Job center website is open 24/7.

If the job is doing that to you I have 4 words for you

Get the **** out.

Seriously no job is worth that level of misery.

Company van with permission, thats their problem, no offence but check that min wage rules have not been breached. (as in you were obliged to work extra hours without a wage).

You do seem to need to look elsewhere for employment tho, no job unless its your own business is worth that hassel!

To be honest it sounds to me like a typical small computer repair place thats run by tosspots who treat the staff like bonded slaves.

I have done my time working for plonkers like them and let me tell you now, no matter how much you do for them, or how honest and hard working you are, they WILL sack you at some point just to replace you with someone cheaper and so they will have less rights ( usually just before your first 2 years are completed ).

They have no HR people ( the boss is all powerful and his word is LAW ) and should you ever try and take them to a tribunal they would just manufacture warnings and records of verbals to make you look like a useless employee. Even medium size companies do this kind of thing, i have experianced it first hand, and no matter what the law says... they can and DO get away with it all the time.

These little hitler places are all the same. Try and find work elsewhere and tell these jokers to shove it.

Employment law is generally useless, so I wouldn't bother.

For example, my working hours are illegal. I know this. My employer knows this. We both also know that I'm not going to lose my job by pushing the issue.

You should just look at moving job or even starting your own business .then, knowing something is wrong and going with it is complacent and is not a good trait (not wishing to offend).

As pretty much everyone else has stated.
Sod working somewhere you are having to take medication to stay sane.

Somedays I'd really like to batter the boss with a hammer but on the whole it's a nice environment to work it.
You HAVE to find that balance and your current employment I'd hazard a guess isn't it!
It's all to easy to just sit there, moan about it and do nothing.
Get off your ass, make plans and find a way out.
