Hi all,

Sorting insurance for the ZS and Ti now, and quotes are coming back a little... steep :p

The best I can do (when I'm 21 in May, it's SORN'ed until then!) is £2700 for an Admiral multicar policy, or £1,500 for the ZS and £1000 for the Ti (Directline).

I have 3 points due to a bald tyre being found on a random stop check.

First car is an MG ZS diesel, used for commuting.
Second car is a Rover 620ti, used for social events.

Any suggestions?

Seriously Roverboi, get rid of the one that costs the most (the ZS).

If the Ti costs lots to run, get rid of that an get something sensible.

Pass ownership of one on to someone else to use and insure, get a policy on your own car with third party cover on other peoples vehicles.

As long as you are not the main driver on the vehicle you passed on, and the likely family member does mind you borrowing it back its not fraudulent.

I...that's....balls to it, too much effort, it's only the internets.

If they were both worth insuring I'd suggest going with an insurance company that will duplicate your no claims, offer you a multi-car discount, and appreciates your custom.

I pay less than £800 to insure the Leon Cupra R and the 330d.

Oh and FWIW, it's not worth it, in the slightest, I never take the LCR out anymore.

If I had a scrape, would they lose their NCB?

You sure?

I can get DOC for another ~£150, so worth doing, but when I'm 21.

Hahaha...£150?! It cost me £30 or less last year on the BMW.

I passed my driving test three days ago and I have DOC cover. Am I especially lucky or do they just think I'm a driving god? :p

How old are you and how much extra did it cost/who are you insured with? I know there are a few that still do for under 25s, but most are pushing the age limit up.

DOC cover is always worth having, I always have had it and I only ever have one car at a time, it comes in when in so many situations, a driver getting tired, feeling ill etc.

All you have to remember is you only have 3rd party cover, so you have to pay for the car your driving! Remeber that and you drive very carefully ;)

Regarding the duplicate no claims bonus, does that work say if you are with one company but are around 5 months into that policy with 8 years no claims, can I insure another car with one of these companies that do the duplicate no claims and insure another car using them? Or does it have to be the same company you insure both cars with? I have never realise companies can duplicate no claims.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, if I can get DOC I will, but only if it costs me less than £50, else in my view it just isn't worth it at all and now most companies are charging loads of it or adding a requirement that you have to be over a certain age, which is now something like 25 it seems.

Ah yeah, Quinn are about the only people that do it for young drivers now, makes me wonder why as it's not the most sensible thing to give young people. :p

~What's the best easiest cheapest way to go about insuring multiple cars without a bunch of messing about? I quite fancy getting a few different cars over the course of the year and not always moving them on at the ame time (i.e. I can't just change the insurance to the next car as I still would have the previous one)

Is there some kind of 'catch all insurance' for regular people?
