Hi guys, I currently have a 8800gt and want to put in a 4890 without reformatting, what the best way?

Safe mode and cc cleaner?

why would you need to reformat?

just delete drivers from device manager + any software you've installed, then shut down pc and take out old card and put new one in, then on windows download latest ati drivers and install + restart and your done.

thats what i did from 7600GS(nvidia) to 4890 =D

what he said :o

Software for your graphics card that is, like nvidia control panels etc.

Just to clear it up so you don't uninstall everything =P

CC cleaner? Its win7, and some people have said to me that you had to reformat to make sure it works good?

Awesome, so I definitely don't need to reformat. :)

Any advice about using something like CC cleaner?

Awesomes, so I swapped cards :D

As this is a second hand card, whats the best way to check for artefacts or damage during postage. It seems to be working, but obviously would like to find any damage now if possible :)

best way is to play some games ;). if it doesn't crash then all is fine..

I did that furmark thing, it works fine (the card) but the big fuzzy cheerio isn't that smooth, it seems to jerk around a bit?

Ccleaner is handy to have around for the occasional clear out- the kind of maintenance which most people do as a matter of course- but I've never had any issues by NOT using it after a hardware + related drivers change. So long as you uninstall the old stuff properly there shouldn't be any issues with the new kit or its software, and any related registry shizzle which didn't get nuked will sit there and do nothing.

It's a good program which works, but as I said I've never had issues with remnant driver software as long as I've properly uninstalled it...
