Don't make the mistake of thinking that I think the criminal who threw hot water on him is a hero.

However I don't feel sorry for Steven Barker in the slightest and I think that this will just be the start of things to come. He will be lucky to get out alive.

I love how other inmates take the moral high ground in these cases. some of them are also in for pretty horrific crimes, but think they've got the right to dish out justice over and above that decided on by the legal process - run and paid for by people who work and pay tax, unlike prisoner scum.

not for indeterminate sentencing. it is lesser crimes where they are allowed out early.
As for the minimum tariff,
Rape of a child under 13 carries a maximum sentence of life in prison

Causing or allowing the death of a child carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail, or a fine, or both

However, in cases where offenders are considered to pose a risk to the public, the judge can impose an indeterminate sentence

In passing this sentence, the judge will recommend a minimum term to be served before the offender can be considered for release.
Only after this time can the Parole Board consider whether the offender no longer poses a threat to the public and so is suitable for release

So he got a very "harsh" sentence, compared to what the judge can allow.

No sympathy from me however, I hope he feels as much pain as possible. But it will still be a small fraction of what he did to that defenceless child.

Nice generalising there matey. Not everyone in prison is a scumbag and not everyone who is in prison has failed to get a job and pay taxes during their civillian life.

it only shows the combined results. Could be 712 against, 100 for.

Loads of people agree with that statement as shown in this thread.

That's the early release scheme too i.e. they are released before they get to their minimum tariff. I especially liked this bit:

The government has paid £5.5m to prisoners released early, in part to compensate them for the cost of bed and board during the period in which they would have been incarcerated.

Rather a leading questioning style there. It depends what you propose as a "much, much harsher" sentence whether I'd agree or not. However he already has an indeterminate sentence which as AcidHell2 points out so even after the minimum tariff he may well not be released.

It's on the Mail website, which is stereotypically a paper with a fairly reactionary readership - such responses to a relatively benign comment don't go a long way to dispelling the common view.

It's not napalm but the supposed addition of sugar to the boiling water (there appears to be some doubt whether it was or wasn't added) makes it sticky which as I'm sure you know is a quality of napalm.
