i have a gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 mobo and ive just bought a sound card for it.
can anybody tell me what the large blue component next to the CPU is ,it has gigabyte stamped on it?
secondly the sound card has to fit in a spare PCI slot but this blue component is so large the card wont straddle it.
can i use the PCIEX4 slot. although it has more connections the card would only be using the connections it fit into?

If this sound card is pci express then put it into a pci express slot on the motherboard and it will only use the pins it needs.

If this sound cardboard is the older pci then use an old type slot, if it is an old pci card I think it wont fit into the newer type anyway.

Yep as mentioned that's part of the cooling.

I suppose with a sound card of that lenght it doesn't sit down flush?

Stick it in the bottom slot?

ok thanks so i take it the fact that the slot has more connections than the card itself wont matter as the card will only use the connections it needs?
and when its in the lower slot it does sit down ok but was unsure about the number of connections.
i take it you mean the next white slot or the orange one ?

I'm almost 85% certain its fine, it only uses the pci express lanes it can make contact with through the pins. Only one way to find out? But seriously, hopefully someone will confirm my statement.
