Recently, a suspiciously chavvy Impreza started parking outside my house - out of curiosity I decided to check it in askmid, which claims that it is not insured.

What would you do?

I feel like a busy body reporting something that may just be a database error, but then can't help thinking what if he hits my car.

Arg you just reminded me to check, my car still isnt showing up on askmid :(

My insurance policy ends in May! It was on there at first then noticed it wasnt around xmas and rang them up and they said it should be and sent the stuff off for it to be added again.. assumed it would have been sorted.. obviously not :(

Idiots like that increase insurance premiums and destroy finances when they crash into someone. High likelihood they'll be a hit and run driver too.

Definitely report him, it doesn't make your a busy body, it's exacting justice on a complete moron.

Biohazard is right

I confirm that the vehicle detailed above is registered, owned or insured by either my employer or myself and is regularly driven by me. I'd just mind my own business. I don't like ''snitching'', in whatever form unless it directly affects me or someone I know ( eg. someone nicked something of me or someone is breaking in to my neighbors) or if it's theft. But that's me.
what if he hits my car.
IF... What is the chance of it realistically?

Am I correct in thinking you broke the law ( Data Protection Act ) ?
Of course he should get insured, but I just wonder why you'd care so much.

Yes, until June.

Wow, I love it, I'm concerned about an uninsured driver that could potentially **** over a lot of people if they were to crash, and all people on here are concerned about is me breaking the law for finding out.

I just think it's funny that you broke the law to try and find out if someone was breaking the law.

I'm just saying I wouldn't stick my nose in something that isn't my business so easily, and especially not break the law to do just that that's just silly in my eyes. And I think the privacy ( data protection) laws are there for a reason.

I didn't mean it in that way, but I'm just saying I wouldn't stick my nose in something that isn't my business, and especially not break the law to do just that that's just silly in my eyes.

Its every bit my business, this car regularly parks right in front of my house and in front/behind my car, they could quite easily hit it.

Let's keep this in perspective. :)

It's at the OP's discretion if he is lawfully using the site/breaking any DPA

So, because a car parks near your house or car on a public road, you think it's justifiable to break the law to find out if they do ? Are you really that scared they will hit your car ? And if they do, you can still report it to the police and make them pay up, regardless of insurance.

The OP has given his reasons.

And lied about this:
I confirm that the vehicle detailed above is registered, owned or insured by either my employer or myself and is regularly driven by me.

I understand the worry, but never the less, I don't go investigating every car that looks dodgy to me, I'd rather keep to whatever I was doing.

I would send an Email to your local SNT about it if you're that bothered. They'll do some checks on it and leave it be if it's all legit :).

EDIT: Saying that I'm not sure whether you have SNTs on the Isle of Weight.

I would imagine that the disclaimer is more so to protect ASKMid's interests.

Every service these days comes with clauses. Packet of raw porridge "May contain nuts". You know for sure it will not!
