I thought Inglorious was below average.... really didn't think much of it at all![]()
The original King Kong was/is considered a classic, as it redefined the level of special FX which could be achieved on film. It also had a good strong storyline. In its time, it was a movie event (much like Avatar is in 2010).
The Peter Jackson King Kong is NOT a classic. Many people didnt even bother watching it (as shown by the box office receipts) and has already been forgotten by most (unlike films like Matrix, LOTR trilogy, etc).
There are many films that I have liked, however, just because a person likes a movie, does not qualify it as a (future) classic.
Conversely, there are many movies that I have hated, that have gone on to become classics.
Dead Man's Shoes for instance and arguably This Is England also?
I would like to add, and I know I'll get flamed to the high heavens for this, Avatar, on a VERY provisional basis, depending on how it ages and how it does on the transfer to DVD/Blu-Ray. Also yes I know the likes of Tummy will start lighting their torches and sharpening his pitchfork but to hell with 'em.
Avatar will also be purely for the technical jump forward.
Avatar, hmm. It's not really that good though is it? It just looks nice in 3D, I urge you to see it without the 3D gimmick and see if you still think that it's on par with some of the other classics and epic films, not in regards to CGI because there is more to films then looking nice, it's certainly epic but without the epic story line of a film like Lord of the Rings for example.
The mere fact that it will become the highest grossing film of all time, will guarantee that it receives "classic" status, at some point.
One that's a bit unusual but might be considered a classic in the future would be Little Miss Sunshine - it's clever, it's quirky and I don't think it will date all that badly.
This bugs me.
Yes Avatar looks stunning
I also thought that films like King Kong, Lord of the Rings also made big jumps forward in terms of CGI.
They are much better films, and don't need to use the "tecnical jump forward" as an excuse to be remembered.
