If they want to be funny about notice or a 'daily' limit to access your own cash - close the account.

They then need to give you the lot.

They will still say come back tomorrow when we have ten grand to give you.

Not sure of your location, but the Wokingham and Reading branches of HSBC will not let you withdraw large sums of cash over the counter without using your cheque book. I have been withdrawing large sums from both those branches over the years and was extremely irate when they stopped handing out cash withdrawal slips.
