5850 Poor Performance?

if you dont want to mess about with flashing here is how **NOTE THIS WILL BREAK POWERPLAY WHILE THE OVERCLOCK IS ACTIVE*: download MSI afterburner and install, open the install directory and locate the file MSIAfterburner.cfg opening it with Notepad.

At the bottom of the file you will see an option "enable unofficial overclocking", change this value to 1 and save it back to the same directory with the same name. (May have to save to desktop as the file is read only)

Once done voltage control and unofficial overclocking will become available.

Happy overclocking.

Yep tried exactly that with ver 1.5 - clocks will move but voltage will not.

What drivers are you using? - I am on the 10.1 hotfix

Thats about right in Dirt 2 under Dx9 (and would be about the same in Vista/Win 7 if the game was forced to run under Dx9 in those, so OS isn't the problem).

Yeah doesent look to bad when I look at that but why are people with cards such as gtx260's getting 80 avg maxed on dx9 @ same resolution as me? Thats what made me wonder..

Also my Dow2 benchmark about half of what people with my card are getting from looking at forums :(, From the 8800gt to this on DoW2 I have only gained about 2fps

am also on 10.1 hotfix. :) seems to work here although I am not using afterburner 1.5, Im pretty sure that im using an older release.

Maybe there is nothing even wrong with my card then guys thanks for all your help, setting cpu to default diden't change anything so I put it back, I guess I might see a increase in performance when I chage to W7.

I've been having a look at MSI afterburner to try and get most of my card now, Managed 850/1150 without changing valts or anything, I tried it at 875/900 core but then my Furmark score started decresing, is this because the memory needs upping with the core? I did try 900/1200 but got grey screen crash.
I won't be able to hurt my card in anyway messing with just core/memory settings and not letting temps get to much right? Temp atm is about 66c at load.

Yep already done :[

10.1 CATS got a bit too funky for me....

If the FPS decreases i think that means the o/c on the memory is failing.

Find out how far the core will go first and settle on that then, Find out the max memory clock.

OC on the memory failing? What do you mean?
On furmark I got 850/1150 - 5309, 875/1150 - 5218, 900/1150 - 5262. So the memory was not changing and the fps was decreasing, I tried them more than once to and got near enough the same score
