No, Merlin had a Passat 2.0 TDI 140. The same whatever it is Mad Rapper has just bought.

Merlin likes cars and thinks of them more than he does his washing machine, so its only natural he would dislike a car like the Passat, which is an automotive dishwasher with nothing to appease even the most minor of petrolheads.

Your attitude is exactly why I didn't post a 'Look what I just bought' thread. I really like it, and don't regret our purchase for a second. End of discussion really.
 
Passat is a good car, well made, comfortable and good at what it does so probably a great choice for what you want it for otherwise you wouldnt have purchased it! Ignore the petrol/bmw fanboys!!

Not all 140's came with DPF's, they didnt exist to start with, then were optional extras (as if you'd pay to have one) and now are commonplace.

With a 14 year old, a 2 year old and another addition due at the start of October, it is exactly what we need! Now, to buy some roof bars and a box! :)

That's definitely not always the case. They've changed from Pumpe Düse to common rail at some stage!

EDIT: I'm also pretty sure some of these were 8 valve... I remember a long discussion with Volkswagen about it.

I think his main reason for hating them is because the wider majority put it in the same class as a BMW/Merc/Audi, which it isn't. It is in the mondeo class, and is debatably better than the mondeo- but that does seem to get washed away with all the "passats are devil spawn" nonsense.

problem is price

VW residuals put them in BMW / Merc / Audi price range.
