Ok my problem is this, every time i play a game i get strange stutter with or without v sinc. I was playing cod w@w and enabled the console so i could see my FPS while playing. when this stutter happens my frame rates are fine no drop at all! Tryed two other Gpu's a x1900xtx and a xfx8800gtx extreme and same stutter with those too. I also made sure my psu is upto scratch and it sports the ati logo, it has 4 dedicated 6 pin pci cables. My hdd is defraged and so are games. all drivers upto date and temps are fine. Please someone can you give me any things i could check or change? been driving me crazy for weeks now. The 5850 should rip through these games right? stuttering and random pauses are destroying my gaming on pc, dont want to go console lol. thanks....

i have also had that on my system but i have a gtx295 and a e8600
some people suggest unpluging usb devices to fix it but the problem was still there for me, might be worth trying tho :)

Does the stuttering only happen when you bring up things to monitor your FPS or does it happen every time regardless.

Have you got any programs running in the background whilst gaming? Turn what you can off.

The only thing that stands out as being potentially dodgy from your component list is the PSU.

Check event viewer in Windows to see if a hardware device is misbehaving and sporadically throwing up errors (not a comment directed at you, but I'm amazed at how many people moan about PC problems and just don't bother to look there, despite how much information Vista/7 provides). You can also try this DPC latency checking tool to see if there are any underlying latency issues.

Just an update on what seems to have fixed my problems, I set launch options in steam games to -DX9 and W@W and MW2 both now work without any stutters at 1920 1080 all settings on everything maxed out. But still cant fix bioshock2.

Thanks for this. I get a similar problem on GTA4 and Red Faction but I wasn't sure if anything like this existed. It may not actually help of course but worth a try.

It's punkbuster, if you're talking about online play.

I had the same in COD4, got really worried it was my hardware, my framerate would literally got to nothing 0.7 second gaps between frames, but i worked out it was only for the 1st minute say of being on a server, then it would be fine... check if this is happening to you BF2 uses punkbuster as well...

My ping is 35ms, Does it on every server. No one else complains about it either, Thats why i think it's my system.

This is like micro stutters mate, Very frequently. When i go one on one it's like my soldier is on acid and i cant quite put my crosshairs on the target for the blurriness/stuttering effect, Like he is freaking out!!

My FPS still drop to under 50FPS, That never happened with my 4850.

GPU log from playing BF2:

If i remember correctly, My 4850 ran BF2 @ 99FPS avg, Now why is my 5850 running @ 99% load on a game that is nearly five years old

I had a suspicion it might be that i did not have the corrct version of DX9 installed but, It said on installation - "The DX version installed is current".

FRAPS log:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
5945, 211953,,,,,,,,,,0, 101, 28.049

For a 5850 clocked @ 5870 speeds on a five year old DX9 game that is shocking :D

hrm...same issue, every three seconds stalker call of pripyat noticeably drops a frame. Rather than try to solve I just blame drivers, or maybe the game.

oh, sapphire 5850.

Apparentley, there have been issues with people running BF2 with the 5850 and had the "stuttering" issue. I can't remember the soloution tho sorry :(

Set AAMode to 'Performance' in CCC. Worked a treat for me, Back to 100 FPS continuously :D

This might help the OP with that other game ?

Thanks.
