I saw this in the Apple Store today (MB/MBP related)

Very pretty. No use to me because I use my MBP on my lap but it's a great idea.

I mostly use mine on my lap too. But I'm increasingly coming to the conclusion that I can't justify a separate depreciating Windows machine just for the occasional game. So I'm toying with the idea of docking my MBP 13 to my Dell 3007, add an external HDD, add some speakers and also add some memory. It would then replace my main machine. The problem I have is that my main machine is on quite a small desk so this would be ideal for standing it upright next to the monitor.

Don't really see the point personally. Why not just have the MacBook sitting next to the screen acting as a second display?

Can't think of a use for it unless you have a seriously small desk and cant fit it on.

My desk is barely larger than my monitor. I don't need a second monitor because it has a resolution of 2560x1600. So being able to dock the MBP vertically is very useful in my case. But I think it's a little too expensive for what it is.

I use one of these. I have quite a big desk but I've also got a 24" cinema screen on it and a 22" screen for my Mac Mini. Under the 24" I have a DVD drive (I swapped mine out on the MBP for another Hard Disk).

It's a bit pricey for what it is, bit it works well enough.

Never really intended to have it this way - just ended up there.

Messy desk:

Side mount:

2rrY

Now show me one that can screw onto the underneath of the worktop :D

It's a shame Apple laptops don't have dock connectors on like the ThinkPads/Latitudes of the world.

Do you find the MBP stays cool with it mounted upside down? Aren't the vents behind the rear hinge?

Take a look at www.bookendzdocks.com

There was that (fake?) concept a while ago of the Apple screen that had a slot for a MacBook that you could slide in and dock internally. In typical style I guess that would necessitate spending hundreds of pounds :)

I don't think i'd get one of these even though I hardly ever use my laptop how it's intended. It just gets too hot when shut and the fans kick up a right fuss when shut if i do anything other than browse a lightweight website.

I usually leave it open.

Well the unit tends to have at least 2 VMW sessions running all day and I don't seem to get heat issues. The fans fire up now and again but usually when I'm hammering it.

As to those that think they're rubbish - don't buy one then, it's not rocket science. For me it just gave me some extra room on my desk in a quick and easy way. No brainer really.

Sure, I could probably tidy my desk up. But that would involve tidying my desk up.

Along with a stunning design and improved ergonomics, BookArc can actually boost the performance of your laptop. When your MacBook is running closed in the BookArc, your machine will automatically dedicate 100% of its video memory to the external display - instead of splitting it with the internal display. You’ll enjoy a noticeable speed increase when working in Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto and other graphics-intensive applications. So can a notebook stand really speed up your MacBook? If it’s a BookArc, the answer is yes.
Just LOL
