Fine Dining in Reading

There's only one place in Reading that could be considered 'fine dining' and that's Cerise at the Forbury Hotel. But unless you get yourself a private booth it's just as impersonal as places like Forbury's, LSQ2 and The London St Brasserie, although the food at Cerise is arguably of a higher class than any of those three.

As has already been mentioned, for true fine dining you'll need to take a trip into Shinfield and head to L'ortolan. But if it's feasible, head over to The Vineyard in Stockcross for a really special meal in a fantastic location.

Admittedly the prices are starting to reach the level you'd expect from two Michelin-starred dining but it's worth every penny for a very special occasion.

If you're driving half an hour and have the budget, I'd sooner pick Bray over Stockcross.

Spot on with Cerise and L'Ortolan though :)

The Vineyard has lost its stars, last time I went the food was good the service not so.

Defo recommend L'Ortolan which is the perfect mix of fine food and fine service without being over the top.......ahhh I want to go back there.

Now that is interesting. I was there in John Campbell's last week and I got the impression that his leaving wasn't something that had been planned. I did wonder what would happen with the new guy and the next edition of The Guide and now I know.

I also got the impression that some of the waiting staff weren't too happy about what was going on...

IIRC there's some pretty decent offers knocking about at the moment. Although I can't for the life of me remember where I saw them.
