I don't really know how to word this I mean I had trouble thinking about how I would title it let alone type this but as the title says I think he is. I have known this guy for over 10 years now and I would consider him my best m8 as he has helped me out a few times but for as long as I have known him and from what I have heard from his family he has never earned an honest wage in his life.

This man is over 50 years old and te more I got to knew him the more I discovered how much more aggrevated I would become as a tax payer. But before I go into why I think he is a fraud I wish to say that he has been very good to me and my fsmily but I just don't knowe what to do. I don't want to be a rat and I am not a grass but I think what he is doing is wrong.

I met him over 10 years ago as stated and I met him through my Mother who has hired him to cut the grass as she is very old and suffers from mental health problems. She found him on a shop window ad which said "Odd Job man for hire" something along those lines anyway. And ever since then he has been cutting grass and pulling weeds amonst other things. He supposed to suffer from a Hernia and apparantly ccannot bend down. Oh but he bends down alright to pick weeds out the ground, he can walk to the shop 2 miles away to buy tobacco, not to mention the only time he actualy gets out of bed before 5pm is when he gets a phone call from someone asking if he can do a job for them or when he gets his giro.

Anyway to conclude all this I rang the benefit fraud hotline about 6 months ago ( I gave them no info about myself) and explained all this but it seems he is still claiming and nothing has been done. I tried to contact them again and asked what has been done and they said they can't give me any information. So what do I do now?

It perhaps seems like they did check him out and he's still legible in some form or another for benefits. The only reason they can't give you information on it is because it's private :)

Shop him again.

After being denied any help from anyone despite losing my job for health reasons and having days when I can barely walk I have absolutely no tolerance for people who lie to get benefits. He should be stripped of his benefits and an assessment should be done to calculate how long he's been committing fraud for so he can be made to pay back x months/years as well

If you have already told them, then they will most likely be doing something about it.
From what i'v heard, the taxman is fairly efficient when people owe him money. It's just when he owes you money that he tends to get forgetful.

They maybe need to gether evidence against him or something which is why it's taking a while?

He is pulling weeds for an extra couple of quid. Give the guy a break.

He is your mate, and you grassed him up? Jeez.

Well to be honest he has not had many jobs with it being winter, how long would an investigation normaly take?

He is taking the mickey and robbing tax payers and I am sorry but I feel robbed of my wages to people like this and I have even told him this before but he still continues to BS me about his illness. But it's ok to lift frigdge freezers and do gardening then isn't it.

Is he not really your friend then?

I know what he is doing is wrong but I would never do this to a friend.

you can do odd jobs and still get benefits.

as for his disability benefit well you probably dont know all the info ?

for all we know the doctor could have said he cant do things for long periods of time or all day. theres a big difference between picking up weeds and labouring in industry for 8hours+ at a time this would rule out most jobs. especially when your 50 and companys would rather hire someone younger and fitter

i know for a fact that they do reviews and checks when people are reported but they obviously deemed what hes doing as ok for whatever reason

He is my friend but I work 50 hours a week and I am shattered everyday so my mind is not clear, I do this to support my new born child and my wife but when I get a day off sometimes I will go visit him and he is in bed watching DVD's stuffing himself with crisps, I mean hell I might as well put in for DLA or something ffs.

You can still get benefits and do jobs. My friend who suffers with an illness works while claiming disability. And it's all above board.

Not if you're claiming the disability stops you don't the things that you're doing at work, as would seem to be the case here.

New disability rules are even harsher but sadly they don't apply to those already claiming
