De Niro and Scorsese plan to reprise the 1976 film Taxi Driver

Could be an interesting new take on the movie, using an old man instead of a young one.
Then again, they may ruin a classic.
I think they should leave it alone, but it's their movie, if they want to ruin it then that is up to them ;)

edit: Ahhh, I really shouldn't skip-read these things, it's a sequel, not a remake - well then they have my blessing :)

This sounds interesting, a sequel is a far better proposition then a remake. Robert De Nero will now play a retired old man with slight dementia trying to supplement his meagre pension working as a minicab driver. Martin would you like to see my new script.

Going by most of his recent films I'm not holding much hope for this. I'll give it a watch when its out though.

why ? its not like hes been the one directing or that hes lost his acting ability. hes just been doing more 'fun' roles. probably for the mass amounts of money it brings.

on another note has anyone seen the trailer for the new HBO series in which scorsese and the sopranos fella have done the pilot for ? exciting

Scorsese is still a freaking god, De Niro's turned into a complete and utter joke. I think he lost all credibility when he did Analyse This, it wasn't terrible, but it was a complete turnaround in types of roles. He quickly followed that up with Rocky and Bullwinkle :(

Most of the stuff he's done since then has been a complete farce, he seems, honestly, just unhealthy, he does this heavy breathing thing in everything he does, its like he can barely speak properly anymore and puts no effort into acting, just getting the words out. Happily takes AWFUL scripts as long as there is cash in it. Scorsese would just hurt his reputation by trying to do something worthwhile with him again.

Righteous kill was horrifically bad, awful plot, acting, directing, shame Pacino, slightly later, seems to be doing mostly bad films lately aswell, two of the old greats really wasting their talent for what must be almost chump change to them by now.

Haven't seen the trailer, but a quick look on IMDB, looks interesting, Buscemi can still produce a truly evil git when he wants to, a mob boss sounds right up his alley with Scorsese behind the camera, sounds very very interesting indeed.

It could be great if the script and plot was the same style of taxi driver, dark and moody, De Niro can still act but I think he got sick of the moody films.

Seems he is doing Little Fockers

I watched Taxi Driver for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I can see why it is a great film but I didn't really enjoy it all that much, so I wouldn't really be interested in this.
