Red squirrels are returning to areas of Scotland where they have not been seen for years, according to campaigners.

Efforts to control the more aggressive grey squirrels have allowed the reds to regain territory in parts of Aberdeen and Tayside.

Grey squirrels had been gradually squeezing the native reds out of Britain's woodlands since their introduction from the US a century ago.

Come on Reds! :D

Speaking of Grey Squirrels, we have three that are always in our garden. Today one found the prize of the year. A whole donut that was thrown out as it went stale. Funniest thing I have seen in a while, watching this squirrel run off with a donut almost his size in his mouth. :D

As for reds, good to hear they're making a comeback in places.

It's because the remaining reds have stronger immunity against the squirrel flu that the greys are completely immune to.

Last year was a bumper year for Acorns, some sort of 4 year cycle goes on there.

And the climate is getting colder, which favours the reds.

I am curious as to why we're trying to protect the greys? Isn't the fact that the greys are more numerous a natural happening?

Great news that the reds are possibly starting to make a comeback. even if it is just limited in scope it's a start :)

Try half a coconut sans shell, with it over the head ;)

Wait, Russian squirrels. So the reds are on the move

they're also in this country and spreading up from the south!

They'll kill the grays and the reds, not though silly things like eating all the food or being immune to disease they'll rip them apart!

Talking of squirrels... I have one in my freezer! The game man on the market had some in so I thought it was worth a try. Going to have Gray Squirrel tagine, lol. :D
