I am honoured to be best man at my friends wedding this year and seeing as he's such an Aston Martin fanatic I thought I could hire one to drive him to the venue, probably a DB9 Volante.

The only car I've ever hired before was a Punto for one day, so I'm a bit stuck on what to look for when it comes to "exotic" cars.

I've been looking around and it seems it's going to cost close to £500 for 24hr hire (with a restriction of ~100miles -ish) plus deposits and things.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience when hiring cars of this calibre and if they know of any reputable sites I could use or any scams/tricks to watch out for.

Thanks,
NVP

Yeah the deposits are a mini fortune but they are to be expected when being trusted with such and expensive piece of kit. As long as nothing get's damaged then you get your deposit back so shouldn't be much of a worry right? (As long as someone takes the keys off me before the drinking starts!!)

Also from looking around it seems you get raped if you go over your milage allowance so I wouldn't advise doing that either. :p

Between £1 and £3.50 per mile so it's not the end of the world if you plan the trip properly. Not compared to the £500 cost of hiring it for a day anyways :p

it's a nice idea but in practice you will be getting ready in the morning probably somewhere close to where they get married. Lots of rushing around and hassle. You will then take the car to the church or whatever driving it for a few mins and that will be that. Value per minute will be very poor! You'd be better off bringing it along to the stag do and really get your investment out of it (and possibly scupper your deposit)!

How old are you?
25 end of the month, but wedding ain't till September.

Yeah It's not too much but the limit is more than enough anyway, will just be used to go to the wedding... (and possibly a bit of cruising).
No help to you whatsoever but I really want a Ferrari for my 30th birthday. (Obviously hired :p)
Ha ha ha I hope you get it bro, Ferraris don't seem to be too much more than Astons, Lambos seem to be the most costly.

Meh, I know it doesn't appear to be good value for such a short time but it will be worth it as a suprise to him.

I just think it will go almost unnoticed given the pace of the day (I say this as someone who is married and has been best man 3 times) as the whole thing just flies past and there isn't much time to enjoy anything until the meal

Have you thought of approaching a dealer? You'd be surprised how many dealers will loan cars, for a small fee if you ask. I borrowed a TVR form TVR Cheltenham when I had a 1.6 Cav for example when I was 20's. Not tried for years but might be worth a try.

I would be inclined to agree, why not buy him an aston martin 'experience' day where you get to drive it around on a track etc? would be cheaper and he would probably have a chance to appreciate it more

If you can't rent one then try asking a few owners if they can give up a few hours of the afternoon to drive him to the venue for a small fee, more owners are willing than you'd imagine.

My uncle had a DB9 for the weekend of his 50th last year. IIRC it cost about £1000 for the weekend, 200 mile allowance and a deposit of £5000.

This is the first time I've been a best man, it's the first Christian wedding I've been too as well so I'm not really sure what to expect but I do realise how hectic the day will be (had a lot of close family Sikh weddings) so I can appreciate what you are trying to say.

But for me, if a small journey in an Aston Martin makes his day even more special then it's worth it... as long as it isn't rediculously expensive. From the prices I have seen for 24hr hires, it is worth it.

Oh now that thought never even occured to me, I shall have a ring around to find out if they will and if it will work out better to do it that way.

Also an interesting idea... although would prefer to drive him there myself rather than squeezing in the back seats of a sports car.
