what headset to buy?

actually skillmister, they are both 50 quid (talking about usb version)

what about getting gamecom 377 and getting the xfi go or xfi blaster sound card? would that be better than getting gamecom 777 ?

i wish i was able to spend few more quid to get creative sound blaster arena but, i cant :( i need everything including shipping to come around 55-60 quid

I've been looking for a new headset like yourself and I can't bring myself to spending a load of money on them (as much as I do love the Sennheiser PC350 I cannot justify spending close £100 on a headset...). As I'm using onboard sound ideally any viable solution would have to be USB for better sound quality. Amongst my many searches I found the Sennheiser PC166 headset.

The headset is analogue input (3.5mm jacks) for both the input and output, however they come a very hand USB soundcard that is widely reviewed as the best on the market - to buy it separately would cost you around £50 anyway. The only thing stopping me purchasing them is the fact they are "on-ear" whereas I'm used to, and prefer, "over-the-ear" such as the Sennheiser HD201's I'm currently using.

So I'm faced with a similar dilemma, would getting a cheap PCI soundcard be of much use to me with my current setup (HD201s and the Logitech analogue desktop microphone)? Or would it be worth investing in something better?

USB is much better if all you have is onboard sound due to the USB device will likely have it's own miniature sound card embedded into it, whereas the standard 3.5mm jacks really require a "good" sound card to really shine.

Comparing microphone quality, generally USB standalone microphones will be better than the jack standalone microphones. However some mics (such as the one that is attached to the Sennheiser PC350) are FAR superior quality using the jacks.

Argh, USB is great technology but whoever thought it would be a good idea to use USB to deliver audio needs a slap in the face because USB audio is terrible compared to a standard analogue 3.5mm jack plug no matter what sound card you are using.

Then I urge you to try the USB PC166's, I would be willing to bet money that they would produce a better sound quality than any sound-card sub-£100.

i dont have a sound card + i can only find the pc166 at 75 quid where i am buying from and its not available in ocuk also ...

now should i buy a cheap soundcard for 35-40 pounds and a gamecom 377 or directly a gamecom 777 ? cant seem to be able to find sennheisers online for a cheap price.

and if i do get a soundcard should i get an internal one or an external one?

its difficult these days to decide what the best things to buy are, this is the kick in the crotch of internet shopping.

maybe try and see if a highstreet store has them that u can try before u buy. another possibility is u buy online, try and then return the one u dont like, but thats a bit harsh on the bank statement.

ugh it takes me ages to decide what i want to buy but im just glad i make the right decision at the end. recently bought a steelseries xai, a qck mouse pad and saitek eclipse 2. took me weeks to decide lol
