Taliban militants are increasingly using civilians as "human shields" as they battle against a joint Afghan-Nato offensive, an Afghan general has said.

Gen Mohiudin Ghori said his soldiers had seen Taliban fighters placing women and children on the roofs of buildings and firing from behind them.

The joint offensive in southern Helmand province has entered its fifth day.

US Marines fighting to take the Taliban haven of Marjah have had to call in air support as they come under heavy fire.

They have faced sustained machine-gun fire from fighters hiding in bunkers and in buildings including homes and mosques.

Sounds harsh but it's a good tactic, using your enemies weaknesses against them, a pretty standard military tactic.

Wouldn't have worked with Hitler but works like a charm in the war they are fighting.

Well they've already sent kids into bases carrying grenades, they will do anything to kill the enemy.

Tbh when the taliban are using these tactics I still don't get why our troops can't kill them when they retreat into a mosque when losing a fight.

Make you think, why the hell are we still in Afghan, its not war, its not about getting rid of people attacking the UK, its just fantasy land.

We will NEVER get rid of the taliban, its impossible but that is another thread and so is Pakistan.

But in combat you use anything that will give you the advantage.
 
It just confirms why we're doing something about them to me. Use a child as a shield and you shouldn't be allowed to run a country end of.

This is a war crime according to the Geneva Convention. I doubt it applies here but I think it should.

Precisely. Such examples of brutalilty on their part justify the invasion to me.
 
Who won't the Taliban fire at? All we have to do is take some of "X" people hostage, then use X as human shields.
