RX8 > ?

also whos paying that much for plugs, for a set of 4 platinum ones for my rx7 it was £50 would be £30 for non platinum ones which ill be running in the future

since an engine can be measured on how much cc it is when it has used all of its cylinders, a 2.0 piston engine is 4x500cc, but a rotary should really be called a 3.9ltr 6 stroke engine 6x654cc.

But most just call it 1.3 as thats easy

See my sig for an insight into running costs.

£4k inc fuel, servcing and parts, per year based on 11k p/a. That's interesting. I don't think many people realise just how expensive running a car can be until they start adding up the figures. With insurance, what's that, £4.5k p/a?

Great looking car you've got. I like the dark blue though ;)

Yeah, have to admit it gets me every time I look at it! I worked out that even if I got a car that's cheaper on fuel and maybe tyres then I would probably save around £1000 a year at the most which to me as an enthusiast, I would say it's worth it.

My only issue, in reality would be the fuel costs, but then that working on my current figures, I work in a school, so only 38 weeks/year (:D)

Current car (Civic) gets 35-40 MPG, I do 10 miles to work and back each week (100 miles) drive to my girlfriends at the weekend and back (50 or so overall) so I average only about 150 miles a week, 38 weeks of the year, which work out just over 6k average, add to that we're buying a house soon, so minus the 50 miles every weekend.

I currently put in £25/week.

If an RX8 averages possibly 24mpg in my daily routes etc.. (4 mile motoroway, 3 miles dual crraigeway, 3 miles villages and 40 zones) I'd be looking at what sort of money per week? maybe £35ish? if they do 300 miles to a 65L tank, I should expect £35 a week at 150miles/week to be enough?

Excuse me, I appear to have waffled! :o

I guess so, thats the only off putting thing forme, granted I do baby miles, really, but its scary thinking that the RX8 would get similar economy to Spie's 599!

Sometimes people look at the paper (or given numbers) for economy and cost and think "that's fine" - but are suddenly struck by the rather grim reality every time they pull into the pumps, on a more regular basis :D

I'm not saying that the economy is necessarily a bad thing, but it can, in reality, taint the otherwise enjoyable ownership of a car.

It was a bit of a shock going from a Pug 207 doing 35-40mpg to a Prelude doing 25 :p

That is where I am spoilt, too used to good economy, when I used to have my old Fiesta there was no MPG counting, nothing enough to tell you and you filled it up when it got low on fuel, whats the worst that could happen! Get bad MPG that throttles you so you sell it!

I think I worked out the difference between 27MPG and 35MPG to be around £410 a year based on SUL prices on the Isle of Wight (119/L) and 10k miles.

I guess the same difference applies roughly between a normal hot hatch say and the RX8.

No its a 1.3

Renesis - an engine boasting innovative technologies such as side intake/side exhaust porting - is a 654 cc x two rotor unit....

That's the swept volume per face, per revolution, if you compare swept volume per rotation of the output shaft to a 4-pot it'd be a 2.6, once you realise that despite being a compact engine it's performance isn't so impressive.

There probably cheap cos the engine is dying... My engine died on mine 6 weeks ago. It had hardly any compression in rotar 1 and not much more in rotar 2, both apex seals and side seals failed. The car has always been well looked after and oil check daily and only has 43k etc..

Total bill for rebuild was over 3.5k for the engine new spark plugs £140 , new starter motor over £300 . Good job i took 2 years warranty when buying it or i would have been screwed! MPG i was getting was 16-18mpg no matter how or where i drove it.

Will i buy another? No

Would rather have an RX7, more power and engine seems to last longer!

I drove an Rx8 once and upon sharp acceleration from a stand still, i had to check to see if the handbrake was stuck on. There was just nothing there under 4k revs. On the plus side, they are as quick as the E46 M3 round a track, handle the road fantastic and will be an all round reliable performance car.

The engine is a 1.3cc. 13B. Basically It's just complete nonsense when people say "the engine is a 2.6". The uk is the only country in the world that classes the rotary 13B as a 2.6. Just means more money for the uk tax man. My log book says 1.3cc. The engine blocks has 13B stamped on it.
