Aircon cutting out going up hills?

If my aircon cuts out (by that I mean, the air coming out goes from cold to warm in a very short space of time) when going up minor hills, does that sound more serious than a simple re-gas?

I also noticed that in general it's performing worse than when I first bought it 10 months ago - seemingly taking longer to cool down and cannot handle the Sydney heatwaves as well as I would have expected.

Any ideas?

Are you putting your foot to the floor when going up the hills ?? My car turns the aircon off when on WOT (wide open throttle) and comes back on when I back off.

Nope - it happens when on cruise control doing about 65mph in 5th gear. The engine isn't labouring and the temperature gauge doesn't move off middle at all.

It's climate control so I just set the temp and off it goes.

The only thing I could think of is the air mixer (I guess they have to have one of these?) inside the dash is flopping closed/open when going uphill. It's only mildly annoying so I think I'll leave it until it gives up altogether.
