hi,
Im hoping some of you have been in a similar situation and can give some advice,
Ive had my car for 2 years now, im 19 (20 by the time i get insurance)
I have no accidents or claims, but i dont TECHNICALLY have a no claims (been 2nd driver for 2 years).
I love my car but i feel like i want a slightly faster one, my original idea was a mr2 na or turbo but the insurance is too expensive (2250-2700) and what ever car i buy would have to be about 2000 quid, my idea is basically to get a Focus 1.6 or a Fiesta Zetec-s or something but are they much of an improvement over a fiesta 1.25 really i mean its like 11.9 vs 9.7 0-60 is that a difference that is like WOW this car is quick, or is it going to be fun for about a day until i want another (faster again) car?.
other car ideas ive had in mind are :
e30 318is
saxo vts (not sure i can get past the chav tho)
pug 106 gti
just so you know next years insurance on my car 670
zetec s 1000
e30 1300
106 and saxo 1500
focus 900
so what do you think is the best to do
basically question is sell or keep for a year or so until i can get a official years no claims and something decently quick (less than about 7.5 0-60)

How often are you going to be doing traffic light GPs?

Personally i'd take a Focus 1.6 for a couple of years to build up some no claims and then get something faster after that.

lol i dont race people or anything, it just feels time to step up a gear, but again im not sure wether to hold out another year or something

9.7 is similar to the 0-60 time of my car, and it isn't even remotely fast. Don't buy a car with such stats expecting it to be a speed demon.

Ideally you should have got your own insurance right from the start. (I hope you aren't fronting by the way).

Get your own insurance now to be honest.

nah im not fronting originally it was my mums run about car and she owned it etc, now tho im starting to use it about as much as her so as a result weve decided so swap ownership and put me as the main driver so keep it legal, mum also said we could look at another car so this is what took me to this point

yeah i checked pumas i believe it was 1500 for the 1.7 i'll look now
edit:
ive noticed that if i put both parents as named drivers i get like 300 off (on all cars)too which is a bit ????
EDIT2:
PUMA millenium 1.7 is 1300 is that the right puma?

To be honest I'd have anything from this list:

Puma 1.7
MX5 1.6 or 1.8
106 GTI
306 GTI-6
205 GTI
E30 BMW 325 (getting old and expensive)
Starlet Turbo? If you can look beyond the digusting interior!

i got to fair insurance on my car is ridiculous 747 quid ...
yeah ill check out a mx5 now
what mk engine etc to i try

just tried a 1998 1.6
the insurance found 1990 -- mx5 1.6 or something (is that mk1)
any way worked out to be 1300
there were a lot of options tho trims etc

tried a gti6 was 1300 quid, why the hell is a xsara vts 3000 then arent they the same car?

my only concern with e30's are is it gonna be a money pit?
side note:
my current cars insurance is 110 quid more if i put in the reg even if i spec it 100% right in the manual section (wtf?)

Tbh, I don't think you're going to find anything particularly fast until you hit 8 seconds to 60, and even then, it'll still feel slow in a few days.

But its all relative, I was taken on a run in a DC2 ITR the other night, and that felt terribly slow to me, but it might have you ****ing in your pants with excitement.

GTI6,e30 325 or the 106 GTi would be the only things I'd say are remotely quick mentioned in this thread, imo.

that is my worry, ive had rides in a lot of cars recently
Focus st @300 bhp
my mates corsa vxr
his dads e92 335d
before that his old car was a RS4 too
so they were all fast AS but again all less than 6.8 0-60

lol dont say that about dc2's i really want one lol seriously though arent they like 6.5?

how much is a decent condition no rust 80k miles gti6 these days more than 2000 right?

mazda mx5 1.8 is 1400

A DC2 won't feel that quick as they don't have the gut wrenching torque of a turbo car forcing you back in the seat.

But 6.2 seconds to 60 isn't slow, both of mine did 6.1 and 14.5 second standing quarters, quicker than my 330ci.

Not bad that what had been done to them?
