HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

I love threads like these. They offer so much insight on a product which could be hit or miss depending on personal needs.

After my iPhone passed away sadly about two weeks ago, and slowly developing more problems, I've decided I might just have to flog it on as faulty and look for a new phone to fill the six month gap until renewal time.

I've read through this thread from start to finish over the past week or two and the HTC Hero looks to be an amazing phone. I've had a quick play with one of the IT lads and it's certainly impressive, seems to be so much more 'open' than the iPhone is.

I'm sold. Now to hit the fleabay and see if I can get hold of one from there. I wanted to ask though, is the WaveSecure software all it's cracked up to be? It definately looks tempting, but are there other solutions I could utilise in case the phone was lost/stolen/etc?

anyone else get this? send text message to someone, click home screen and then switch off screen. you get a new text so click the text message app and it puts you back to where you were with the keypad up, when the next text is from someone else, which means you have to click back to get rid of the keypad, then back again to get rid of the current messages you're in to then get all the texts listed, and then click the one you want?

also i find often i click on the message and it doesn't update my notifications bit so it still tells me i have a new text and flashes, or the same if i click the notifications it wont update the text message app and that'll list 1 new text.

I got this the other day for the first time. Don't know what caused it but it hasn't happened since though. Do you have handcent installed as well?

:D Just had HTC's 2.1 running on my hero, and have got to say its gonna be AWESOME when its released. have nandroided back to my MCR 3.1 for the time being as the early 2.1 is buggy and stuff keeps FC. aside from that i was impressed and really cant wait for the official release now :D :D :D

Having tried most 1.5 roms the best i have found is this one, its fast and stable and everything works!

Interesting...!

Anyone know more good ROMs? Any based on Eclair?

I finally got mines rooted the other night (what a pain in the bottom, went fine tho) and i papped mocado 3.1 (?) and the most recent radio on it :)

Phone feels sameish... but the radio update made an amazing difference to my call reception :D

I'm new to all this Hero stuff, just updated to the 2.73 firmware and its running so much better than what it came with, 1.7?

just wondering what this rom stuff is, i've been browsing this thread for a bit, got a ton of new apps to play with and you guys are talking about roms? they run a lot better than the latest firmware from htc? :P

just got a hero and really like it, got a strange problem tho, ive just unlocked the phone from t-mobile to all networks. with wifi connected and using youtube app the vid quality is crystal clear, but when using o2's mobile web via hsdpa the quality of the same youtube vid is pixelated badstyle, its crap quality tbh. so how come anyone know?
