I have recently been thinking about starting to drink coffee, I enjoy a latte and I normally drink tea.

So what coffee is best to go for in terms of starting off?

I keep nabbing some quite nice stuff from a woman at work, i'll need to look for the name tomorrow.

If you are struggling to drink it, stick fair bit of sugar in... or leave it all together :p

Something Columbian, or South American, cafetierre filtered - strength 4 or 5. Thick black, like treacle, 2 spoonfulls of Demarera sugar - and you're sorted.

I normally drink tea :D

Buy a cafetiere for next to nothing, buy a cup from anywhere you choose, go to a supermarket and buy a bag of mild coffee grounds. If you like it, keep with it or try similar, if you want stronger go stronger.

They're labelled 1-5 in terms of strength. 1 being weak.

Don't buy instant.

omg no instant!
never ever instant its horrible stuff but then that means buying lots of equipment so i understamnd why people do.
personally (and yes i am abit of a coffee geek) i prefer to roast my own beans and i always have several on the go at once, i love the difference in taste you can get between beans

yay!
then when youve discovered that cafetiere is pretty nice get yourself a stove top esspresso maker!

Try the individual filters from the likes of Douwe Egberts and Rombouts No mess, no fuss and have varying strengths. Filter just sits on top of the cup, fill with water, water filters through the coffee, bin the filter when done. Much better than instant imo

Look like this from all major supermarkets:
