More Fermi bad news

I'd love to see intel shake up the enthusiast market... they have the tech and financial clout - they just need to hire a few good key people already experienced in the particular industry and give them discretion over the actual implementation of features/software.

sounds expensive!

ATI went completely the wrong direction with the design, no amount of moving to a lower process, etc. would save it.

So, pretty much where we are with Fermi at the moment then ;)

Except the key difference being that the 2900XT actually made it to market with a fully working product.

Nah ATI were blindly in pursuit of an unrealistic pipedream, the actual fabrication of the process was the least of its problems.

To me it seems that the enthusiast market is not as important to Nvidia as it used to be profit wise. They have diversefied to other markets - tegra, smartphones etc...

Even if ATi pwns them, they would still have plenty of money rolling in

Tegra can't sustain a company the size of NVidia even if it's a success, which it isn't. Notice how NVidia made a big fuss about all the design wins they'd got for Tegra. Yet almost none of those actually resulted in hardware on the market in any quantity. Most of NVidia's 'partners' backed out for some reason.

Why? Maybe Charlie is right and Tegra needed much more power than NVidia lead their customers to believe, maybe it wasn't as fast as expected. Maybe another competing chip was better. Who knows. But Tegra failed and won't be making much cash for NVidia, I have to wonder if sales even covered the R&D costs. Perhaps Tegra 2 will do better, but NV is still starting at ground level in a viciously competitive market. Odds of that generating revenue significant enough to save NV if their GPU sales go belly up is pretty small.

Jen-Hsun Huang Nvidia CEO "This little puppy right here is Fermi" Yeah sure it is Jen Hsun.

Its odd how people believe this guy and slaughter that Charlie fella.

Come on guys, give Rroff a break. We know he supports Nvidia because he likes some of the features they offer, but he's not afraid to take a pot shot at them either.

It gets a bit boring reading the same stuff again in every thread :p

If this were the case, then perhaps he could post something about Fermi that isn't rendered with rose tinted filters?

I want competition so we can all have more for less but i am just not getting the feeling fermi is going to be any good. Nvidia are just too quiet for them and they simply are not the sort to have somethng fantastic and keep quiet about it so the quiet for me points to problems. Whether those problems are what charlie says or others i don't know but clearly something isn't as they planned or we would have a lot more then we do right now.

As for charlie yes we all know he has a bee well a huge buzzing bee in his bonnet about nvidia but you cannot simply dismiss him that easily he is right more then he is wrong and does seem to have good contacts that allow him to get access to info before a lot of other people\sites. As for huang lets be honest the guy could appear on the muppets and look right at home someone really needs to get control of him or up his meds because the guy is a disaster on two legs.

Trouble for nivida though is not good for us and we need them to be strong and producing competing products because if one company is allowed an advantage sadly nvidia have shown us what happens and it isn't good for us consumers.

they really need to hurry up and get this card out,so i can get another 5870 to xfire.
im hoping it is as good as they say so then the 5870's will drop to the £200-250 mark or even less
