Cant believe this - 2nd card failed?

Guys, I have been recommended by OCUK to increase my VCORE by two notches. It currently set to 1.350V in BIOS. Just want to check that its perfectly save to up this to 1.3625V? I know nothing about OC'ing!

not so sure about intel, but phenom ii's are good all the way upto 1.55v (mines on 1.472 @4Ghz atm)

seeing as they're both 45nm i guess the max voltages cant be too far from each other...

I think that the pink value is due to the Chip not completly supporting it, the I5's and i7's like it if the memory voltage is lower than 1.65v. I think its due to the memory controller on the trip being damaged over 1.65 volts.

If you can't put it at 1.65 volts, try it at 1.64 - it should work fine.

I'd never buy a pre-overclocked system, they simply can't run enough stability tests on them before they sell them.

Problem is that if it works with a non-5850 card then they may well reject your RMA. You would then be charged a handling fee as well as postage back to you. I would try their preset settings with a different card if you have one available.

I have done that earlier. I put a 7300GT in and ran all the same stress tests. Kept falling over and BSODing.

Its a new built with all components from OCUK so its up to them to get me some working kit!

I'd ring up OcUK to get help with your OC profile as you paid for an overclocked bundle. Maybe direct them to this thread. Seems to be fairly common that systems just on the edge of stability are crashing out with the addition of a 58xx card. No clue why though.

I can vouch for this. Had my i7 at 4.2GHz and was rock solid for days, then started getting GSODs. Backed it off to 3.8GHz and nothing for two days with my 5870.

Gonna sneak back up to 4GHz and see if my computer gremlin notices! :p

RMA the overclocked kit if its still crashing with a different card?

Sorry to hear the troubles you're having :(

It will be collected on Monday and hopefully I get a new setup by the end of the week. At that point it will have been 2.5 weeks without even getting into any games yet - not much fun for the money I've spent!

I did wonder was I wise not buying another mac!

Yep I read about issues with some of these cards. Sounds like the terrible ATI drivers at the moment doesn't help.

I know its not much comfort but your experiences arn't too common at all. You just see a lot of problems on here as this is where people come to ask for help, you don't get many people making a topic about everything going as it should :)

Exactly. Funny thing is I decided to buy this system which is identical to a mates, purely because of how good he was saying it was! If it wasn't that I lost time with RMA'ing first gfx card I'd have returned everything under distance selling act.

Now with the time lost, I have no option other than to keep it.

Well you obviously do want the system and its still upto the retailer to get it working (which they probably will) or refund you.

i will get flamed for this but i have never liked power as i have had issues in the past with them as well as 2 others i know. i had 2 card replaced because the "fan controler" stopped working, they originaly tried telling me it was my fault that i didnt keep my case clean nad it had dust on, i explained how i have dust filters on all my intake fans and clean it out regarly and also pointed out how i have only had the card for 3 weeks....they then replied right...we will get one sent right back to you...after 3 months it was sent back 2 months later it failed i asked for my money back and then bought a asus and now im happy.
