tv license inspection deemed as "no proof either way"

Do the TV license fellas really have pin pointing equipment that can show to the mm where a TV is plugged in and receiving a broadcast? NO. Load of bo larks imo. The fact you had free view boxes and a virgin subscription with viewing "devices" that are able to receive television broadcasts is a different matter tho. I myself have a large computer monitor which i use for TV, ie through a usb stick and the flat aerial connection.

IMO unless they have pages of data which can calculate that you have been receiving tv signals ( in x amount of days and weeks) then tell em to stuff it. Most people will buy tv licenses just because there scared of all the bad press that has been received ( ie all the adverts in which oohhh ive been fined £1000 because i didnt have a tv licence). IF your cunning, then you will find a way out of it.

TV Cloak device - how cool is that. I thought the wave looked like someone giving the finger :D

I just have a speech memorised for when people come knocking asking about TV's:
"Can you come in? No you can't. I refuse to submit to any form of coercion by the authoritarian state apparatus to have a big brother window in my life. You do realise that TV's are the shadow regime's tool to manufacture consent for the illegal and immoral actions performed by our so-called democratically elected representatives. YOU have blood on YOUR hands through your apathetic cooperation in this affair, which can be directly linked to the murder of innocent..."

If the guy hasn't cut me off and made excuses to leave by that point I have to resort to quoting Chomsky, but that's only happened once so far :D

Play them at their own game, send them a letter every week stating that you don't need a tv license as you don't watch tv and fill it full of boring crap then send it ad infinitum twice weekly.

The problem here is the fact that you admitted to having an aerial. So what if its was just 'wound up'. Easy enough to have done it before he came. Same as the Virgin box. The fact that you have it proves you could have used it. Virgin doesn;t need to be tuned into channels for the TV, so again, no proof at either way.

Seems fair.

I hope you're in no position to say that to anyone ever because you are clearly misguided.

I lived in a flat(rented), it had an aerial in reach of a TV.
-Does having an aerial now admit I watch TV?
No.

-Is there any way I can remove it?
Yes, but that would mean costing money, doing something the landlord would not want, and why the hell should I?
Couldn't do it myself, require going on the roof of a 4 story building, cables were tunnel...no, stupid stupid idea!

-Is it in the vicinity of the TV?
Yes, but it's a long cable and reaches anywhere in the room that the TV/desk for my PC will work.

So in your eyes despite still not actually ever watching TV (plugged into PC)
I'm still in the wrong and have proof clearly against me.

I think it's a poor attempt at reasoning and you lack the ability to think of multiple outcomes of an event in which what he said would make sense. Rather than send a few moments to think you jump instantly on the easiest and first outcome that came to your mind. Please think about it next time, I'm sure it'll happen to you some day and you'll want to explain but people won't listen! (insert random occurance here).

So what did I do when I got letters to pay my license? I binned them, all 5 times.

I keep getting reminders and don't wanna pay. Unfortunately if they visit they will be able to clearly see me watching my 52" plasma from the street. I suppose I better pay up. Also I don't wanna cause my landlord any grief as he is sound as a pound.

More a poor choice of word. What I really meant to say was implies.
I mean, why actually get and install a Virgin Box if you cannot / will not use it. Just playing Devilas Advocate here. You have to admit looking at it that way does imply that you could be watching TV or have at some point. Personally, I would have removed it first!

If you get any letters from them, read them, laugh at their hollow threats then bin them, if they come to the door, don't let them in.

Lol so true... I keep getting loads of their letters and they expect me to pay for a call just to tell them that I owe them nothing. What's the point? If I don't owe them anything why to they expect me to pay just to tell them that??

OP I can't understand why you have the virgin tv box plugged in?

You've said why you have the box sure, but why plug it in, waste of space and electricity if you're not using it surely?

Yes, yes you should. Or, you could just stop watching TV, it's not like there's ever anything good on.

Well the broadband package was £30 per month, broadband and phone was £39 and brodband, tv and phone was £31. I opted for the last because i thought a home phone would be usefull. Turns out we've only rang it once ourselves to check it works and never used it again! :p

Well we used to have a tv license and it was plugged in then as we used it. But when we got the letter through saying the license has expired we unplugged the tv aerials and didn't really think anything more of it. The tv in the lounge barely gets used and for the past 2 months it's had a large cardboard box and a mattress in the way so i guess out of sight out of mind would be the most appropriate way of looking at it.

It's unplugged now though so i can save the £2 a year it was using in leccy.

When I worked there around 4 years ago this was infact the case, however things appear to of changed since then.
It's never been the case, and if you were told otherwise you were lied to. Although I can't possibly imagine why an organisation that makes money this way would possibly want to perpetuate false beliefs like this.....

I've had this debate before and it gets boring very quickly.

You have nothing to prove your right, I have nothing to prove I'm right :o

Computers and laptops

Many TV channels are now available to watch over the internet. If you’re watching programmes on a computer or laptop as they're being shown on TV, then you need a TV Licence. However, you don’t need to be covered by a licence if you’re only using ‘on-demand’ services to watch programmes after they have been shown on TV. So, you need a licence to watch any channel live online, but you wouldn’t need one to use BBC iPlayer to catch up on an episode of a programme you missed, for example.

Mobile phones
Just as with any other device, if you’re watching programmes as they’re being shown on TV on a phone or any other mobile device, you need to be covered by a licence. If you're covered by a valid licence at the address where you live, you'll be licensed to use any device powered solely by its own internal batteries outside the home too.

Sky+, games consoles and digital TV recorders

If you use Sky+, Playstation or any other games console or a digital TV recorder to watch or record programmes as they're being shown on TV, you need to be covered by a TV Licence. This is also the case if you use a DVD/VHS recorder.

If you only use your digital box to produce sounds (i.e. you don't use it to display programmes), then you don't need a TV Licence.

So you can even use a digital box and not need a license
