tv license inspection deemed as "no proof either way"

I was more wondering why anyone would not want access to TV for the pennies it costs. Don't care whether you pay or not / watch or not. BBC is a great service.

Because i have a mind of my own and don't need to be spoonfed. I'm no sad ******* either so i don't watch eastenders or any other similar dross.

Put it this way, for the same price you can have a year subscription to tesco/lovefilm dvd/BR AND GAME rentals giving you the freedom to try out anything you want. More choice of films with true surround sound and the games option speaks for itself.

Everything else is just repeats, E4 is every friends episode i've ever seen along with crappy brothers little brothers big cousins dog tripe. ITV 2 plays the same movies over and over in the space of a couple of weeks and most the things on dave are repeats/available on iplayer.

The only things of the bbc i've enjoyed watching are doctor who and the comedy roadshow stuff, both of which are available on iplayer anyway.

Personally for me im at Uni and cannot afford it.

Everything I need I have access too via the internet :)

When I graduate and get a full time job, then I will pay for one as I'm almost certain I'll have a TV with Sky :D

Haha, nice find whoever found that if you use your digibox for radio channels then you dont have to pay - if they want justification for the boxes being out just say you listen to the radio.

I wonder if iplayer over VMedia boxes requires a license?

You did see the point where I said 4 years ago and it has changed since didn't you?
http://www.jifvik.org/tv/ From over 4 years, see how the advice from the TVLA website changed in December 2000 but prior to that said non connection of an aerial was sufficient. There is plenty more evidence like this around the place, plus you can go read the original legislation on the government website if you want.
I don't see how in the face of all this overwhelming evidence that goes contrary to what the TVLA told you that you can't just believe that they lied to you because the TV License is how they make money.

I would most likely let someone in as well - am too honest to just say "no" to their face - although *if* I did have something to hide I might then consider saying no!

Thankfully no such need currently as we're licensed.

The longer you leave buying a license, The more you pay per month. They basically charge you from when they saw you had a TV capable of recieving a signal. When I moved into my place, I ended up with a bill of £50 a month for my license, After phoning them and having a some what heated discussion about when i actually got my TV hooked up, I ended up payin £23ish a month. When its usually £11

What the? You don't have to tell them when you started to use it, you just tell them you want a licence and that's it.

I'm not debating whether or not they lied, I'm debating what the TV licensing people I worked for stated as what they required to satisfy them as to why you wouldn't need a license whilst owning a TV.

At the time they required you to tell people that to satisfy them you had to make your tv incapable of receiving outside broadcast via an aerial, this involved completely disabling the tv's ability to do so. Obviously this got changed as it was considered an unreasonable request.

Your site only shows that you didn't have to disable the tv's ability just de-tune it, we on the other hand had to state that you had to disable it.

I'm only going off what I was told to do.

You pay for your first TV license in the first 6 months of getting it (=£23 per month). After this, you pay for your next one in 12 monthly instalments - six before the license due date and six after (=£11 per month).

You are paying the same as anyone else would be.

Can someone explain to me how they track you recieving signals???

They don't. The technology to do so may exist but they don't use it. Yes they have empty TV licence vans but the purpose of them is nothing more than a billboard which they park in very public places like supermarket carparks.

yeah, i know. In hindsight i shouldn't have, but it's done now. I'm wanting to know what may or may not happen next and which is most likely.

I let them in once and they saw me watching tv, they said:

'anything you do say may be used against you in court' etc.

me: erm whats that then like a police thing.
them: well its law

Basically i had set up a sub and cancelled it and a few months later thay came so i told them i had set it up on the internet, they were friendly enough so i let them in lol, (2 people)

Anyway they spoke on the phone to some guy and confirmed my bank details and now i pay the fees every quarter and they took no action as long as i pay the fees, didn't get a fine or anything. got a letter a couple weeks later confirming no fine as long as a stick to the fees.

Does anyone know the latest on the Noel Edmonds boycott?

(this refers to him boycotting the tv license, not groups boycotting Noel Edmonds as I am sure these exist too :D)

Why cant they just lock all the TVs with a keycode not allowing you at purchase of to use it unless code is real and tied to a TV liscense account.
