BBC announces iPlayer, News and Sport apps for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry

A news app that downloads all the news onto my iphone every morning would be good for reading on the tube, i'd happily pay an increased license for such for that as it would mean i no longer need to try and read the guardian/ft on the tube.

as for watching iplayer, i'm yet to be convinced by watching video on the go, i much prefer music and reading newspapers/books etc.

Britain's newspapers are demanding the BBC's plans for iPhone, Blackberry and Android news and sports apps are stopped.

The Newspaper’s Publishing Association (NPA) argues the corporation “muscling” into the market will make difficult for other UK news organisations to make any money from apps, whether through selling apps, subscriptions or ads.

I hate to point this out again but it seems pretty important

:p

I read it the first time, but the media spend their entire time moaning about the BBC so it's nothing new. :D

You know what's coming next don't you. A TV licence for phones or they will put the licence fee up to cover the phones.

The current licence already covers you for using any device that operates completly using its own batteries so they can't really increase it for this reason. there's plenty of other reasons tho.

I don't really see how you can argue your point on the basis that "We don't like competition"?

If they don't like it, improve their own products and compete. There's no way the BBC will be blocked from releasing these apps by whinging.
