Just a quick thanks to all you guys for your recommendations in various threads regarding which tyres are good.

I recently just bought a Falken 452 and it is superb for the price (£51.50 incl delivery from allnewtyres + £10 fitment from kwikfit)

So again thanks - I often take OcUK's advice on things :)

Kwikfit almost cost me £500 in suspension components due to their complete inability to balance tyres properly.

Did you not notice the wheels were out of balance the first time you took it on the motorway?

*edit* I have just noticed the almost bit?

Yes.

I had them fit 4 tyres because they pricematched Mytyres for me and thought 'Fitting tyres, how hard can it be?'

They did the job and I noticed that I had a shimmy through the steering wheel. I took it back, they commented that they had balanced them properly but would balance them properly for me again. They did.

The problem was still there. I left it a few weeks, took it back again, and they rebalanced them a third time for me.

The problem was still there.

The E39 is notorious for a 'shimmy' through the steering wheel which is either caused by inproper wheel balance or worn control arm bushes. Obviously i'd now had the wheels balanced 3 times and it had made no difference, so my thoughts turned to replacing both lower and upper control arms at a cost of at least £500.

Before doing so I decided to throw a last 20 quid at the balance issue and took it elsewhere. They rebalanced the wheels for me, told me the balance was 'miles off' and I drove home....

....with absolutely zero steering wobble at all.

That is the last time I ever visited Kwikfit.

For the record, I don't work for Kwikfit and I am certainly not recommending them. Personally I don't like the "I have fixed your puncture Sir, however I will have to replace all your brakes as I can't let the car back on the road as it is unsafe" "by the way there is a bus stop down the road if you need it" Next thing your trousers are pulled down and £500 or so extracted from your wallet.
and no it hasn't happened to me I just know a few people who have fallen for it.

Surely they can fit tyres though?
