The Pacific **NEW TRAILER**

I'm intrigued to see how well they follow the books. I'd imagine the Okinawa episode will be quite gruesome in parts. Some god awful filthy conditions those blokes had to endure, surrounded by rotting corpses, maggots, flesh and the constant fear. One of many truly shocking moments of Eugene Sledge's book.

A particularly thought provoking moment in Sledge's book is where he grumbles (and rightly so) when he lands at the R&R island after the Peleliu campaign and he is told to "move along sonny" by a fresh young officer who had never been in a fight. I could imagine how he must have felt after what he had just endured. Sledge makes no attempt to hide the bitterness that he had for this little episode and I'd imagine that he would have never forgiven this young officer for the rest of his life.

Yeah one of the guys falls down the hill and ends up covered in maggots and rotting flesh, pretty horrible stuff.

Thats by far the best trailer yet, i was worried there was a chance it would be a little too mawkish and reverential after the 1st 2 or 3 trailers, but theres finally more than a hint of the messy brutality of at least Sledges book.

I don't care how good that trailer looks and it looks epic to say the least, but sky arn't getting anymore money out of me!

MOFOS

Its really not all that bad...I mean its 10 episodes long, so if we assume one a week then its only 3 months of Sky movies that would need to be paid for. To be honest, I would wager that the cost of 3 months of sky movies is probably not all that different from the cost of The Pacific DVD boxset. Been a long time since I bought Band of Brothers DVD boxset, but I'm sure I paid something along the lines of £60 for it and that was just a normal version, not HD or Bluray or anything.

I wouldnt be surprised if the Bluray version of The Pacific boxset retails at something like £80-£100 when its released. Which is a fair bit more than the cost for Sky Movies for the 3 months required to see it. Sky Movies being £16 a month, so for 3 months it would be £48. I'm guessing theres not going to be too many places doing the Pacific boxset for cheaper than £48.

On price at least, its really not all that bad.

I originally taped Band of Brothers when it was shown on the BBC years ago (yes thats right, VHS!). And finally bought it properly on Dvd for about £20 a couple of years ago.

I would imagine when it is released that it will be very expensive. These things usually are stupidily priced upon release. Unfortunately.

I couldn't be happier that its on Sky Movies for 3 reasons:

1: I'll be able to watch it in HD
2: No sodding adverts
3: It'll broadcast in 5.1

Now I just wish they would show it......NOW!!!!

Just SKy Movies HD.

Not by what this says:

In a statement released to DS, the broadcaster insisted that Sky Movies is "the natural home for this ground-breaking series" due to its high production values and cinematic scope.

The Pacific will be shown on Sky Movies Premiere and Sky Movies Premiere HD this Easter. It will debut in the US on HBO on March 14.

I hope thats an attempt at an unfunny joke because you couldn't be more wrong.

Then I guess I'm wrong because everywhere it says "exclisive to Sky movies HD" and all the articals say "because its how the directors wanted it to be seen...HD and with no adverts".

Sky responds to criticism regarding showing The Pacific on Sky Movies only:

Sky has responded to negative comments circulating on message boards, blogs and social network sites regarding its decision to air forthcoming ten-part miniseries The Pacific on Sky Movies rather than Sky1.

The HBO-backed show, which is produced by film heavyweights Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, follows the interlocking stories of three American Marines fighting the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. TV fans across the web, including the Digital Spy forums, have been critical of the decision to debut the Band Of Brothers follow-up on the Sky premium channel.

In a statement released to DS, the broadcaster insisted that Sky Movies is "the natural home for this ground-breaking series" due to its high production values and cinematic scope.

"We had always planned to screen The Pacific on Sky Movies and from the moment we saw the first clips of the series in early 2009, following more than three years of discussion with HBO, we were awestruck by the sheer scale and spectacle of the series and from that point on we knew it had to be shown on Sky Movies," the release said.

"Although The Pacific has a mini-series label, the approach to the production and the end product is far more in keeping with a blockbuster movie release. The budget of over $200m (£128m) and the stunning production and cinematography all make this the most cinematic programming made for television ever."

Sky added that a place on Sky Movies allows episodes of The Pacific to air unedited and free from commercial breaks and on-screen intrusions.

"The directors of The Pacific envisaged that each episode would be shown in full (ie without ad breaks), unedited, in HD and free from on-screen logos or graphics - as such Sky Movies is the most appropriate channel for the series," the statement continued.

"There has been a huge amount of interest from a number of different broadcasters and we had to fight hard to secure The Pacific. We've now seen a selection of the final episodes and are more convinced than ever that Sky Movies is the best place to fully experience The Pacific and we're sure that our viewers won't be disappointed."

The Pacific will be shown on Sky Movies Premiere and Sky Movies Premiere HD this Easter. It will debut in the US on HBO on March 14
