BAFTA Nominations

Box office success doesn't necessarily constitute it as 'good' it just means it appealed to a wide target audience and was marketed very very well. Look at amazing films like A Prophet, The White Ribbon or even An Education and then compare their profits.

I didn't say it made it good, I said it made it not over rated.

Great - I couldn't resist and I looked at the awards that have been given out. I won't post any spoilers but I am gutted to say the least :(

Precisley, story and direction wise it was nothing special. Well done Hurt Locker.

Story = Screenplay award.

Hence why Avatar wasn't nominated for that category. Yes James Cameron did write Avatar but that's kudos to him, he did was a director doesn't have to.

For me Hurt Locker was nothing more than an average film, I'm really failing to see what was so special about it.

The Directors job is to direct the way the film is shot. The Hurt Locker was all handheld with countless crash zooms, sure I understand the hand-held element for some stuff but I don't think there was a tripod/static shot for the whole duration of the film. It's all down to preference I guess but for establishing shots and simple two way conversations I'd use a tripod :\

The Hurt Locker?! I'd never even heard of the film before I watched the awards! Absolutely tragic that Avatar didn't pick up more awards... the amount of work it must have taken in comparison!... If I were James Cameron I'd be very disappointed :(

I'm sure he'll get his fair share of rim licking at the Oscars.

Yes this is right, because spending a tonne of money, making a tonne of money and putting lots of work in makes Avatar a better film then some of the others :D
