The *Official* Eve Online Thread

what is the difference between high sec and 0.0?

High sec is space rated 1.0 to 0.5, 0.4 to 0.1 is lowsec and 0.0 is

high security space is nice and safe, no one can attack you unless you are in a player corp and you get a Wardec from another corp. Concord which are NPC police will most of the time kill the attacker before they kill you.

Ocacasinally people do suicide cheap high damage ships if the targets cargo is lucrative enough.

You can also still join Faction wars which is like a big Corp War but against Empires and you get some rewards.

Low Sec has no Concord but still has Gate guns which gives the attacker a dissadvantage, also no "bubbles" which pirates put down to stop you warping.
so is a bit safer than 0.0 but almost as bad and not as profitable, you don't wanna go here really.

0.0 is where corps join forces to form alliances and alliances join together to form a few major powers that do battle over solar systems. You need to join a corp that can hold its own or has protection to survive out here. Although once out there in an area with blues it is safer than low sec most of the time and has all the good money making oppertunities and the best PVP with Capital ships and 1000 ship battles.

The thing about Eve is it is all player driven so to get into the big stuff it obviously requires effort as you are playing in a sandbox with 1000s of others, some of which are very dedicated and spend all their lives in this game, but if you want, just join a big corp and pay your tax and leave the leadership to the others like me. I log on a few hours a week for PVP and a bit of PVE if I die too much.

And there are still a loads of other more solo content that you can do without needing anyone else and at your own speed if you wish.

Much appreciated :)

Will give the game a good look and see what happens from there!

I'm deciding if I should play eve again or not. I haven't play since 2007 = P and haven't touch any other MMOs for over a year now.

One thing he got to mention was agro rights, for instance, you take something from a can/wreck floating in an asteroid field. That something was someone's property and you have just stolen it. That person and their corp mates (if in a player corp) will be able to kill you without the police interfering.

Agro rights is something worth reading up on and can save you a lot of ISK :)

Seems bloody complicated :p

Well im off for another 2 days so I will perservere and hopefully it will make sense after a while.

The game seems like it could be great fun but will need to try and get into it first

there is a bit of a gap between doing the starter tutorial missions and getting enough SP and isk to be able to venture in to the PvP and profession ladder, i've been playing for 10 days and i'm approaching the ability to be able to fund my missions/attempt PvP but even then it's going to be sketchy for a while.

also remember that in the trial you wont be able to train up many skills (i founds this out on day 2 of the trial and ended up upgrading there and then :p)

just persevere if it's your kind of game you will love it, if it's not you will probably hate it :)

Never found the skills/trial limitation when I played for the first month. The only thing I think I had to leave until after I had paid for the account was the Battlecruisers skill. Guess it depends what you are working towards though :)

Yep that's eve. lol :)

Yeah it's complicated but a refreshing change from the stock MMO pattern of...

Target monster -> 1 1 1 1 1 -> Loot -> Target monster -> etc

Just made my first million ISK :) (Yes, I realise that will be just about enough to buy a cup of tea but it's a first milestone)

Yarrr I have just applied the the Tuskers, so I look forward to blowing you all up soon!

@Mustard: Congrats on the first million mate, I remember when I did that myself and it was the best feeling ever. Keep at it and the isk will be rolling in soon enough!

It's never too late !!

I started another new char a month or so ago as I need one to do some deep field scanning to keep my other mains safe :D

Know the feeling, although it was last year when I last played. Days I miss it and there's days I'm thankful my account isn't active as I know I can spend silly hours enjoying it. Maybe in the future, just not right now for me.

Just downloading the client to play on a trial account with. I played EVE many years ago so cannot even remember the email i used at the time, let alone my account name. Any OCUK-er's to take me under their wing while I familiarise myself again? I remember doing a trial last year and it was all very lonely not knowing or indeed coming across any other players!

join the "helpmymission" channel if you want to get into missions again , some good advice can be had in there (click the speech bubble icon at the top right side of the chat window to join a new channel)

btw any mission running corps around that do lvl5's?

Join the Channel 'OcUK' ingame and there will be plenty of friendly faces to talk to.

also look at joining the OcUK corp if you are going to continue the trial.
Details in sig

you get shot to bits in 0.0 as theres no police :)

Depends what 0.0 you fly in. Providence region is relitively safe due to the NRDS policy, however you need to be careful not to fly into any enemies of providence, they will not hold fire on you.

Providence holders are required to come to your aid if you request assistance, we try and act like concord but can't always gaurantee your safety.

Also, avoid 9uy and d-g, they are bad :D

What's the best way to actually get enjoyment out of Eve? I started playing back at release and have come back for a few weeks here and there, but I can't help finding it plain boring. I seem to end up sitting reading a book while my ship flies about on autopilot. The combat seems to be a point and click adventure without the adventure.

This isn't intended to be a dig. I love sci-fi and games like Elite, Frontier and the X series. I hear people raving about how incredible Eve is and wonder what I'm overlooking!

There will always be those monotonous bits, I found exploration in low sec really really fun. Find a reasonably quiet area and you can make a lot of ISK but also get the adrenaline surge of trying to avoide the low sec pirates :)

The most fun I've had in eve is since joining Libertas Fidelitas in 0.0

Combat is so much better in 0.0 and makes highsec and lowsec look boring.

Just last night I got 8 kills on a roam and loved it, especially when the enemy formed up a 95 man fleet to engage us, we ran like hell.

If combat isn't your thing then the large alliances also need a lot of logistics, miners, and manufacturers to build equipment for the PVPers to use.

Join a mega-corp, gain purpose :D
