BAFTA Nominations

Out of the list Avatar probably wasn't the "best film" but if it had won it wouldn't have been undeserved.

You just missed the point of "Best Film" :D

It's not the best film, but deserved to win...

Derby County didn't win the Premier League but lets give them the award because they "deserve" it :D

You know what I mean, you don't always have to act this purposefully obtuse.

James Cameron deserved the Best Director award for so many reasons - and as a side-note you still think it's overated even after it's taken almost 2.5 billion dollars?!

And Jeffrey Archer used to be, and Dan Brown is, a best-selling author. Popular /= good.

Surprised Hurt Locker did so well, it was good but it wasn't brilliant, plus there were a few really poorly done scenes in it too, imo.

Glad Christof Waltz got recognised for his part in Inglourious, brillliant acting especially in the opening scene.

100% agree on Christoph Waltz getting best supporting for Inglorious. Can't say i agree with Hurt Locker getting best film, as i preferred Avatar but then again i haven't yet seen precious.

The rest look rubbish IMO.

MAKING LOTS OF MONEY DOESN'T MEAN IT'S A GOOD FILM.

Jesus.

Of course it does to an extent. It means lots of people liked the film enough to watch it multiple times. Some random awards shows vs. being buried under a tonne of money...yeah I'd take the cash.

Also, awards are given out by a select panel so its all very well having them recognise your film as being good but I'm sure Cameron is overly happy with the fact that thousands of people across the globe went to see his film and enjoyed it.

People take awards shows far too seriously. I'm glad that Kathryn Bigelow won out though. Its a joke that she's the first female director (its taken until 2010) to win a Bafta.

In which case you'd have to agree that mama mia is on of the best films of all time? (It clearly isn't) Mass appeal does not a great movie make the highest grossing movies of all time list is littered with terrible pieces of cinematography. Avatar is a technical master piece but it's not a great movie it's as simple as that.

No, making a lot of money does not make it a "good film", it makes it popular :)

Yep, exactly in the same way that iPods are popular, it doesn't mean they are the best.

shiny shiny...

/Hurt Locker fan.

I think anyone who genuinely belives the Hurt Locker is a good film should check out generation kill to see a much more involving and compelling look at the iraq/middle east conflicts.

Yes it's a mini series, but i my opinion two or three episodes of generation kill are far better than the Hurt Locker in every aspect.

I don't get it, all the Avatar defenders seem to use 'the technology has changed the industry' ok...but he won the awards for those categories? Avatar was a damn good film, but story wise as has been said it was fairly ordinary.

Think about watching a film on DVD is Avatar still going to be the best without all the 3D as a film? Majority would say no. It won the awards for the categories it was best in!

On another note, still need to see the Hurt Locker, friend of mine said it was good but not great so will have to judge for myself.

Avatar wasn't the best film, It just looked nice.

That doesn't make it awful, it's still decent and a really top expirence at the cinema in 3D.

Precious would have gotten the best film award imo, not annoyed that the Hurt Locker got it tbh, good film :)

Apples and Oranges I suppose... I really enjoyed Avatar for its storyline as well as the technology used...

There were better films this year, Avatar looked amazing, the rest of the film wasn't at the same level of the CGI, which was a great shame.

There were films this year that had far better acting, storylines and were far better written.

Like I said, Apples and Oranges lol :p I thought the plot and storyline were excellent and definitely worthy of an award... however BAFTA seem to be in the same frame of mind as you :p
