Are these any good or mostly crap?

I like the look of them but there seems to be a high amount gone faulty

Was this a model thing at the time or are they still poor?

Thanks guys

i think the 580w ones had a bad batch i'm sure it's sorted now, i have an 880w and no problems i'd defiantly buy another just aviod the 580w ones, oh and last thing i heard about hiper was that they went bust i don't know if anyone brought the company.

 the mods should really block one word replies.

anyway, My bros rig (Q6600, 4x1GB, 2xHDD + GTX275) has been running off a 580W for a year and half now. Wouldnt recommend them really. If you already have one I wouldnt panic about it though.

I bought a hiper for my first psu. Ran flawlessly for about a year then sold it on, as far as I know it's still running well now. They had the 580W modular one (or something like that) which was really highly recommended on here for ages then a few years later they all died. Which is sort of funny.

I think hiper have gone bust now, making future rma unlikely. Probably avoid them on that basis, but I'm sure the supplies themselves are fine.

Got the 630w Type M here in the missus' rig, I got it at the beginning of 2007 iirc, and got knows how many different rigs of mine that thing powered, it's been quite a few anyway, and it's still going strong, running an o/ced i7 and 8800GTX...

I wouldn't go around recommending them, mostly because of all the issues other guys have had, however, I'm pretty sure that it was only the 530 or 580w Type R's that were dodgy.

I had to open mine a couple months back to clean out all the years of dust that built up inside it, and the innards looked like what you'd expect to see in a high quality PSU, it looks very well built tbh.

They are pretty decent PSU's imo, that don't cost an arm and a leg.

I've still got a Type R 580w (the blowing up one's), still going strong in my other PC after about 38 months with no problems. On the other hand I had an OCZ PSU for a month before that failed.

THey are good PSU's and now the exploding batch is sorted I would easily recommend them.

I had a hiper type r 580 and it lasted me about 7 months befored I RMA it due to voltage spikes across the rails.

As has been said it was the type r 580 that was a problem. I remeber seeing stats from all the psu manufacturers back when they started dieing and other than the type r the failure rates for hipers were in line with other manufacurers.

Also my mate hada type r and it lasted him 3 years despite constant teasing that it was going to go boom before he replaced it.

I wouldn't avoid buying one just because of the type r hysteria tbh
