'Studio' Portraits with......you know who!

I did a quick pass on some of them with a more 'normal' colour conversion, still aiming for that magazine look though. It doesn't work on some of them, but they may be to more people's tastes as there is less blending of the subject with the background. I literally did all of these in about 10 minutes, so they are a bit rough.

I do prefer these new ones. Maybe I am oldskool.

As for harsh criticism. Generally, for me, the harsher the better as long as it is constructive and with detailed reasoning. And even amazing photographs are sometimes worth pointing out any issues to help the photographer achieve perfection. Feedback is important in learning.

Yeah I completely agree. I was just interested if people found that they received different critique across the internet when posting photos in the past.

I much prefer the style of your original shots, nice to see someone doing something they want to do with processing and pulling it off. I wouldn't have bothered redoing them any other way!

One thing i would say about this shot, and Helen wont like it, but........In my early days of photography....my dad getting me along to the photography society here when i was a kid, one of the things that was mentioned was with female models you should have their chin facing up slightly as it produces a more flattering light under their chin. With the above shot she has lost any definition in her jawline and with it blending into her neck combined with the unflattering crease in her skin, dare i say it, makes her face looks fat  which i think we all know by now, she clearly isn't.

Prefer these re-edits ScarySquirrel ... colour & contrast better imo. Punchier all round without losing that magazine feel you were wanting.

Think the 4th photo is my favourite pose with the last one a close second. Well done :)

Oh, and regards the "unflattering" chin position - still looks pretty good to me lol !
Her eyes are so striking in that photo my gaze isn't really drawn to the skin creases on her neck. Some skin creases, texture etc is fine imo - gives the subject a more natural appearance. I think many photographers over do the post processing on skin.

Definitely. Some forums are mostly snap-shot family + pets photographers, other forums have lots of pros. The pros make their weekly income based on making good photographs so need hard criticism. OCUk is somewhere inbetween, a few semi-pros ( I don't think anyyone makes 100% of their income from photography?), a few very very very good photographers, many very good photographers, but also many amateurs, and a few snap-shot shooters.

Don't worry, she hates this photo too :p
She said it makes her look like she has a fat face!
