5830 specs leaked

Seams a strange lot, some features sit between the 5770 & 5850, but some are lower than the 5770... and power is higher than the 5850???

makes you think that maybe it was just too close to the 5850 so they decided to cut it back a bit more, we already know that the extra units in the 5870 don't make as much of a difference over the 5850 as they perhaps should.

They may do in DX11 shader heavy games, we'll have to see.

It is fishy, I guess it's possible they are higher voltage than 5850

Thats certainly a possibility to get more shaders stable, and therefore able to salvage more cores per wafer, which could help bring the prices down on the other two(as every failed chip add's to the cost of the others).

SO it is theoretically possible for it to have a higher wax wattage. LIkewise its definately possible they cut the ROP's because it would be far to close on performance to a 5850 and they don't want 5850's sitting on shelves so people can get a decent overclocking 5830 for 20% less.

THen its also possible the slides are fake, its not exactly hard to knock up a few slides with a new card added in, colour them in red and black and call them AMD ones.

Cutting the ROPs also increases the number of salvageable parts... I'd say you were right on the money for the reasons on the voltage adjustment.

Not sure about the power usage, but apart from that the specs seem reasonable. How much more do people expect? If they increased the specs any more it would quickly make the 5850 redundant.

At the moment it's looking to be just above the 4890.

I'm a bit disappointed by these final specs, was banking on upgrading from my OC'd HD4870. To be honest, it seems as though I may as well find a few more quid and go with an HD5850.
