District 9

I loved it. The premise was refreshing and with a high level of immersion and believability that alien films rarely give it was intriguing all the way through.

I do get the feeling the concept artists played a lot of Half Life. Did anyone else think the alien technology looked particularly Half Life esque along with the alien symbols and then when he used the grav gun to fire a pig.. I thought.. thats it.. this is HL2 inspired.

Yup

In the original D9 thread, a lot of people said that

mavity gun towards the end too :D

I have the blu ray, but no blu ray player, my gf bought it for me for my birthday, assuming my pc would be able to play them :D

Funnily enough my eldest has just got back from South Africa and she was telling me about the District 6 Museum.
I now know where part of the District 9 story comes from.

I thought it was a great film, the main actor was probably the best thing about it, I found him hilarious.

Oh yeah, Dmpoole, is there a family butchers in your family or something? I went past a butchers today in Stoke called "D Poole's Butchers" :p.

This post is just one big LOL. So you're a film financier?

I thought what Drunkenmaster said was obvious.
If it was made in America most of the budget would have been spent on actors and I'm not a film financier either.

You were near the notorious Smallthorne roundabouts then :)
They're nothing to do with my family, in fact there's only 3 blokes left and the lineage dies out with me.

Guess i'm one of the few that absolutely hated it. I'm surprised i actually watched the whole film in the end. Don't think i'll bother with it again.

its an excellent film, shalto is enough to make it a great film on its own even if you took away the excellent visuals, original story, and depth

wow, guess I hit a nerve, you must be a district 9 fanboy then and just for the record, it's an opinion, my opinion and i'm more than entitled to one without the rude reply thanks.

@bledd. - I guess i felt this film had more potential after watching the trailer initially and hearing good things, it took a direction I found abit boring to be honest, the film never really took off for me, and I thought it was a bit weird how these highly advanced alien race were more like a herd of peasants. although it was a while ago since I saw the film and I don't remember it too well so hard to remember specifically the bits I didn't like.

The main actor was good though as were the visuals and the setting, but if the story's not upto scratch then it's not good enough for me personally. Overall I was just bored :)

I dont have any nerves - all removed after a nasty accident on a bmx

Just find it amusing that you "absolutely hated" it, not that maybe it wasnt your thing, or you didnt get it, but that everyone else in the world is wrong and that it was dire

But if the story's not upto scratch then it's not good enough for me personally. Overall I was just bored :)

Perhaps Independence Day would be more your thing? Hackneyed plot, feeble attempts at characterisation, and predictable finale.

Very average film I thought, It's unlikely I'll be paying to watch the sequal.

Also big LOL at all the fanboys in this thread taking the negative comments to heart.

Maybe people should be less bothered if someone doesn't like a film. Also, condescending accusations and comparisons don't help.

I got bored of watching The Shawshank Redemption so I really must be an idiot considering how many people like that film.

I'm laughing at his numbers because which actors have a quote of $30m these days? Perhaps if you're talking about Tom Cruise or Will Smith, but those two are exceptions rather than the rule.

But let's say you stick in Will Smith and you have some other reasonably well know actors playing other parts - you're still struggling to get anywhere near the standard for a summer blockbuster budget these days which is $150m+.

Whichever way you look at it, producing District 9 was a fantastic achievement for $30m all in. :)
