Walked into Tescos last night...

Just sounds to me that you were making trouble for the hell of it - it's never that cold in England that you would keep your hood up...

I just smash them in the face and lay them out flat *BANG* if anyone so near as dares approach or speak to me in public. Its worse in supermarkets.

Pure mental

what are you smoking DM ? .

OP clearly thinks the security guard victimized him because he was black. why else would he be so offended ? and why would he even bring up colour at all ?

infact he even says it sarcastically here

He could have targeted me for any number of reasons. It could have been my hood, my colour, my height, my size or any combination, or none of the above. He might just have been following a hunch, or he might have been following store policy, although I doubt there is such a policy in place.

Either way I don't feel its justified to ask somebody to remove their hood when they're out shopping simply so that the cameras can get a better shot of their face just in case they're a thief, irrespective of their ethnicity.

dont blame the security guard when we had a shop we used to ask people to remove the hood...there is no need for it INDOORS

But that would mean, if somebody wanted to steal something, and didn't want to get caught by the camera, then they walk in with their hood up. If it's not store policy and the guard doesn't ask the thief to take it off, then shoplifting would increase by a huge amount.

Which is fair enough for groups maybe, where the cuplrit could be lost on camera and not caught at the door..

I don't find that a reasonable excuse for a single person, who can clearly be identified as a person (face in view or not) and caught at the door. Smells of ******** to me to be honest.

I walked into my local store to buy some cigs. I go in there several times a week for a newspaper or fags. I take my daughters in there to buy sweets if they've been good. I don't walk around making or looking for trouble.

I'm genuinely shocked you've just said that, I can't believe the enormous lack of common sense form making a comment like that, that is EXACTLY what CCTV is for, to ensure that every customer is monitored, because every customer COULD BE a criminal, if cameras only turned on when certain people came in, that WOULD be stereotyping and that WOULD be wrong. What point are you trying to make here?

What point are you making here?

You can be identified as a person, hood or not.

When 99% of people are law abiding, its not hard to see how people start to find companies and policies like these more and more intrusive.

I for example wear hats a lot of the day, you can still see my face but some hats are larger than others. I ain't taking my hat off for anyone, unless I want too. Perhaps the OP is attached to his hood. Yes 'hoodies' are a problem, but not on one person.

What would you advise then? A sign saying "All criminals please remove your hoods"?

Yeah that'll work.

I'm advising that CCTV operatives do their jobs, just as should the security operatives (uniformed and plain clothed).

By all means ask groups of people to remove them, however if they cannot follow the movements of ONE person with a hood up in their store I'd be very suprised. And tbh if thats the case they should review their security.

Somehow I doubt this is true.

CCTV is commonly used for catching criminals after they have committed crimes though, the point you make is that if they are alone, they can easily be tracked with a hood up, which is fine. But if the Police wish to pursue someone who has committed a crime, the CCTV will be useless if they have their hood up.

Apart from anything, the inability to cover their face will likely cause less counts of criminal acts, simply because they are unable to cover themselves from CCTV.

You realise most CCTV isn't continuously monitored and the reason they want your face on it is so they can use it as evidence to identify that you are you when they come to press charges? Yeah, I thought you did, just checking....

OP, in your first post you've played the race card and used it to try and blame the guards actions on the color of your skin when it's simply store policy and if you were asian, white or anything else you'd still have been asked to remove the hood.

People like you who are the first to claim you've suffered at the hands of racist motives give other ethnicities a bad name, and that's coming from a white person.
