Didnt know where this would fit so i put it in here...

Is it possible to get a cheap webcam and use it as a security camera in my bedroom? Obviously quality will depend on the webcam but something like an old Logitec maybe.

Ive never heard of software that would do this or anyone doing it. If it worked I could maybe rig one up in our front room too

Thanks

yea of course you can do that.

just buy any camera that connects to your pc and you can record 24/7

if you want more than one, why you would want cctv in your house.... there is enough of it everywhere else.

but you can get ip cameras, they work better than usb cameras.

Just to turn on when we go out. Things like my mates car door outside getting prised open so they could nick his cd player that worth about £40. We are in a basement flat too, would be nice to record the faces of theives so something more happens.

I use an application called Dorgem. Takes a bit of tinkering to set up. Currently I have it to record when it senses motion, and for it to record into different folders per date, and for it to time stamp the pictures.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while but I don't leave my PC on every night, then my car window got smashed the other day

I've since tested setting up my Logitech 9000 so I can pop it in the window at night if I want to. The Logitech software has quite a good motion detection setting that pics up any movement immediately depending on the sensitivity you set it to, and of course records in HD from the comfort my my side of the window. I can just whack it into my netbook at night if need be, but if I set up a dedicated file server PC I might leave it plugged in all the time.
