Hey all

Am getting a 40" LED TV to replace the 40" LCD I am using as my main PC display, this means (much to the missus's delight) the LCD will be going in the living room.

Only problem being is we have a 10 month old who is a bit of a terror, is starting to try and walk and pull himself up on things and the thought of him pulling the TV on top of him is pretty scary (both for his sake, and the TV's :p).

Sure there must be a lot of other parents on here with similar worries + hopefully solutions? Looking to either get a decent stand, or potentially ceiling mount (TV will be placed in a corner so wall mount isnt really an option). Any ideas?

I HEAR YOU!

We have an 11 month old and he's getting a right little so and so

He has so far learnt how to turn the amp on and off, the TV on and off and last week he somehow managed to find the XBOX360 eject button.

You know what that does, one button switches the console on and ejects the tray  I went down into the lounge to find him shaking my MW2 cd and was just about to lean on the tray in order to climb up the TV unit

The plasma has hand prints all over it and he just thinks it's funny :D

My Girlfriends due any day now so I wall mounted ours with no exposed cabling.

Now I want to hide my xbox and the rest of the av gear

Either mount it on the wall or get a tv stand that allows you to mount the tv onto it. I had my tv mounted onto a tv unit because wall mounting was not an option at the time. Ive recently just replaced the tv unit and my daughter doesnt seem to bother about it now lol.

Beat some respect into the little sods. That's called parenting.

Only joking :) Wallmounting does seem the best option. Are you sure you can't get corner mounts? Sounds like something that should be available to buy.

I have a two year old daughter when we got our TV we used to get little hand marks on the bottom of the screen now she is older the only difference the hand marks are further up the TV.

You just have to do your best to keep them out of the way if you can't wall mount it. Would a 10 month old be strong enough to pull it over (or indeed be able to get enough leverage on it)? My mate's daughter is now nearly 2, and they only have to contend with polishing off finger prints and turning off AV devices!

My 4 year old use to touch the screen from time to time, but now she's that bit older she doesn't really go near it.

send it to me and there will be no tv to pull over :D

Seriousley though, we wall mounted ours to keep our little one off it. Why dont you get one of those swing arm brackets if it needs to be in the corner of the room

My nearly 3 year old niece is very good when it comes to electronics (she can beat my score on winter olympics on the Wii :\ )

She does have a habit of slapping the glass on the fish tank to make the fishies jump though :p

a few years ago one of my mates youngest decided to do some colouring in with Dora the explorer all over his brand new Sony V series that had cost him around £2k the day before. Coloured pencil and a matt finish LCD screen.

Children are what home insuarance is for.

I am sure my Toshiba lcdtv came with a cable to secure it to the table. I have not used it since my daughter is older. I think from memory it connects the stand to your table so you cannot pull the tv over. Have a look at the back of the stand and tv, there might be some eyelets or holes to take a safety cable. I assume this cable would be screwed to the underside of the table at the rear to prevent the tv from being pulled forward.

my neally 3 year old never ever touches the tv of my pc.

she is very good when it comes to learning not to touch.

Great thread. There are two main problem areas in my house. The computer desk and the TV/Hi-fi stand. The computer desk is baby heaven as they camp out under the desk next to all the flashing lights on the router/PC plus it's warm and cosy. My 10 month old currently likes trying to pull cat5 out of the router :) The PC Has a lockable front door which is good.
As for the LCD TV. Mine's a 46 inch and it does get finger marks right down the lower edge. There's no way he could ever pull it over off the stand as there's nothing to grip. You would have to pull it from the top. If really paranoid, you can either wall mount it or attach a strong cord/cable/rope to the wall and the top of the backside of the TV so it can't be pulled away from the wall.

And yes, my stuff gets fiddled with. I've had an external HDD chundered on/in, a remote control permanently hidden, blu-ray discs taken out the PS3 and chewed, PS3 controllers gobbed on/in, front center speaker always gets moved, the Wii knocked over, the amp set to max/min volume and a bookshelf speaker on it's stand tipped over. The last one scared me as they weigh a tonne and no idea how this happened. Probably the Mrs tbh ;)
