CUSTOMER REVIEW STATISTICS - JAN '10

FB,

Would be good if the forum admins were a bit less zealous as well as sometimes you do feel like you cannot freely speak your mind here.......

I think the best way to look at this is what you are going to type/write - would you say that in front of a 5 year old in your family?

Some reviews are declined because they are abusive and a small quantity are declined because they are factually incorrect.

:p If a small quantity then why just not edit the review and say "Factually incorrect" and/or amend the review with the correct information?

I'm my short life so far I was a Mod for a game forum, it didn't take long to edit a post that was abusive/factually incorrect and make the poster aware of this... however mods on the forum's are quick enough to ban people without warning for a small infraction.

I have not trusted the reviews on the site and always felt they where filterd. Perhaps you could post some of the 1 and 2 star rejected reviews to gain our feedback on them aswell. Also some guidlines while publishing a review wouldnt go a miss. I have had well constructed negative views not be published.

The forums are completely split from the shop as far as moderation goes. Volunteers spend their own time looking after these forums so that they remain usable to all ages.

I hear what you say but if we start editing reviews freely then what's to stop us being accused of doctoring reviews to make them different. Not saying it's a bad idea but always something that can cause bad feeling :)

Well you could always just add in a disclaimer for such reviews, rather than editing, along the lines of 'OcUK believes this review to contain factually incorrect material and would encourage further research of the product in question if in doubt'

Surely better than just flat out removing those reviews? Allows complete transparancy of the review system, everyone gets their say (within sensible limits obviously) but OcUK can draw attention to the fact they believe the basis of the review to be flawed.

I surely hope you don't have 5 year olds using daddys cc to buy a couple of 5970's to discover a rude comment about how fermi is so much better :)

JK... As said abusive and rude language should have no place in a good review anyway. But the idea of people receiving feedback for the reason of a reject seems good in order to allow them to address the issue and resubmit. As people should be thanked for providing reviews.

Better to accept/reject than to amend the reviews I think.

Strongly in favour of rejecting illiterate/incoherent/inaccurate reviews and those which ask questions.

I admit I remain a bit cynical though. Might go and review a flawed piece of hardware to see if it makes it through the filter or not.

It wants my email address, so there's an easy way of providing feedback to rejected reviews. It'll take more effort on your part but would also encourage more reviews which probably helps sales, especially if the system is relatively open. Good thread this.

Plan thwarted by being unable to find any hardware I own and don't like which ocuk sell. That's probably not a bad thing.

I like this.
Hopefully you can make it easy enough to do a monthly update.

Its handy to see, so at least people cannot doubt your integrity.

;) Thats what I was after Kenai - spot on. I doubt OcUK care that much about the review system though to implement such a system.

Good review systems can actually be quite an asset to a site actually, take Easter like site in the US for example. There are so many reviews on that site, often very quickly after a new product launches, so it becomes a good resource for shoppers to check out info. about a product from normal everyday users. This is great for getting traffic onto the site and I'm sure plenty of sales arise from that.
The other thing is that it's so popular there are even manufacturer responses to some reviews as they know there's an awful lot of people reading them and it's in their interest to comment/put right issues with their product tranparently (of course, these bad reviews are hopefully not edited or blocked and posted without problem to begin with).

Having submitted a clean, factual and objective review in the past which never got published I will always try and get independent reviews from elsewhere rather than ocuk.

My point ;)

Its more if there is anything that is even vaguely anti OCUK it just gets vaporised! You cannot have an all encompassing discussion if you are not allowerd to be critical of OCUK.... Nothing to do with language...

None of my reviews got published and there was no swearing in them at all just critical of ocuk thats why they wont get published. So i always find it best to do honest reviews good or bad on independant sites that ocuk dont control.

People wont order when they see bad reviews about ocuk thats why ocuk wont publish them its not to do with swearing.

I've posted a few reviews before, some of which have made it through.

It would be nice if we had an email explaining as to why a review hadn't been accepted though.

I've done a fair few now, and when your reviews aren't getting posted and you have no hint as to why it hasn't it just makes you not bother any more.

Similarly it would be nice to get an email confirmation saying your review has been accepted and is now live.
