Seaworld Orlando Tragedy!!

What a tragedy

I would love to see animals like this in places such as Sea World, I have great respect for them, I cant say that Im a fan of having the perform tricks though. They're wild animals and should be treated as such

I'm not going to suggest either side are right or wrong, but there will almost certainly be video evidence so the truth will out.

I was thinking about this myself. There must have a lot of video cameras and stills cameras trained on what happened. I'm kind of surprised something hasn't surfaced already.

Didn't see that bit in the link. That might suggest the trainer did fall in and was then mauled, but that's still speculation. That's similar to what happened with the tiger I mentioned previously (Siegfried and Roy).

Pre-show the trainers don't go in until the right whales are in the right places. Once that happens they close the gates between the show tank and the rather larger main tank (that you don't see in most photos). They're very strict about this and I've seen a show delayed because a whale was in the wrong place (may well have been Tilly as I was last there in 2007).

PS - there will probably have been 'official' SeaWorld cameras there too. In the pre-shows they often show live video of the crowd.

Have you read the link?

Not until now.
I'd read BBC, a number of the American ones and watched a couple of video pieces. The Sky News one seems to be the only one I've seen which mentions that the trainers didn't get in the water with the Whale.

But the point still stands though... at most of these shows, the trainers are in the water with the Whales. Certainly what I saw many years ago were trainers riding on backs and noses of Whales... so it's hardly a ridiculous question for the poster to have asked why it hasn't happened before.

Yes, i agree with the point you're making. I just thought you were jumping to conclusions without reading the article. Seems that it's just the various news sites have different stories (nothing new there :p). I had only read that 1 and the BBC one.

THE CLUE IS IN THE NAME: KILLER WHALE!!!11!!!!!

No... As said they are dolphins.... and

I think the name comes from that they gang up and kill whales.

You are correct...

The name "killer whale" derives from the Spanish "ballena asesina" ("killer whale" in English), evidently coming from sailors who observed them hunting whales

Anyway its a shame... RIP

Its sad that anyone dies during the course of there work, but unfortunately when your working with a wild creature that has a mind of its own its always a possibility

I dont have any sympathy for her.

Personally i am anti-captivity. Keeping animals in confinement for our pleasure is ludicrous.

Hopefully it does not take anymore deaths to realize animals in captivity is 'medieval'.

And shame on people that buy into this BS! You are the main contributor to the problem!

Ridiculous.

You honestly have no sympathy for her:(.

You really should have watched Natural World last night on BBC2 about Luna the Killer Whale. It was breathtaking to watch.

You don't have sympathy for a human being that died. You sir need to get yourself some education.

wow, shocking news! I'm actually posting from Florida atm, I'm here on vacation, and we nearly went to seaworld today as well....quite glad I didn't now! If it is true that they felt it necessary to keep the whale apart from other whales and never have humans in the water with it, it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen :(

RIP
