Saints Row 2 £2.50

I tried this before on W7 and got nothing, might re download this but I'm not hopeing for much, infact it running would be nice.

So, the forums seem split between 'yet, its worth it' and 'no, its rubbish'.

Deciding vote goes to Yahtzee, who seemed to quite enjoy it, so I'll give it a punt. Hope its worthwhile :D

Remember that yahtzee played it on console. Nothing wrong with the game, we're talking about the abysmal pc port here.

I don't think it's even worth that to be honest, perhaps, if it'd have come out in 2003 it would have been awesome, but while they have tried adding the ''fun'' factor in, it's ruined by the poor graphics, ( especially draw distance, abysmal), performance ( quite gpu intensive while looking about the same as GTA SA), Sound ( music sounds very low quality, screeching tire noise sounds distorted, etc) and the relatively poor experience while driving ( about GTA VC like driving, fine in 2003, but not in 2008 or 2009 when it came out...).

Tempted to try it again on better hardware ( C2D>C2Q, 8800GTS512> GTX260 216) but I'm also thinking ''I won't play that **** anyhow''.

I bought it when it was in the steam sale. I was pleasantly surprised thinking "This is nowhere near as bad as people have been making out" and then I got in a car ...

Exactly :o. A game like this must always at least do the driving bit right.

As bad as the vehicles were as soon as i started moving/shooting on foot I was put off. It didnt matter how much fun the missions might be when the engine felt so horribly shoddy. Found it to be unplayably bad :(.

The game itself is great but the performance is terrible, many sections are virtually unplayable due to lag/stutter,very frustrating as the gameplay is seriously fun and quite often LOL hilarious. It may have received further patches since I had it installed and performance may be better, probably worth a try for just £2.50.

it's pretty poor compared to the excellent xbox 360 version.

How is the 360 version different, is it a completely different game ?
Not trying to take the ****, just genuinely interested why the 360 version would be any better or what the differences are ?

Performance issues I would imagine, sloppily ported to say the least.

Hmmm, I remember performance not being great ( well, **** for the gfx you get), really improving in a patch, andt he game being gpu limited...
But a quick google reveals this on xbox forums:

Just got Saints row 2..Question for the people who have it/played it.. first impressions are pretty good..until you escape on the boat at the start, the game feel like its hitting a consistent 10 FPS, even lower sometimes, is this normal for SR2? or is there something wrong here with the game or my 360.

After your off the boat, the game feels solid, its just that part seemed alil to choppy, never seen that on a console, only on pc games from my experience.
When a lot of crap happens on screen the game does tend to slow down loads.

Which leads me to believe the consoles don't run it optimally either.
However, a beefy pc with the latest patch should run the game fine now, iirc one of the earlier patches, the 1.2 one, boosted performance up to 25% and drastically reduced lag spikes.

There is only one way to describe the Saints Row games and that is as the retarded cousin of the GTA games. It does everything GTA does but 10 times worse while trying to have the focus on being "street".

Diarrhea.
