Hello,

I've never bought a new car before so am unsure how much you can get out of dealers realistically. Plus reading about the way some people have been taken for a ride I would like a 2nd opinion on what I am about to do!

I'm looking at an Audi Allroad 3.0 TDI with a list price of £35,315.

The dealer I spoke to today said he'd throw in the following extra's:
Metallic paint = £550
ipod dock = £250
Bang & Olufsen speakers = £525

So that's £1325 of upgrades included in the base price, do you reckon I could squeeze Xenon headlights out of them too at a further £1000? Or should I be looking for a further discount?

Thanks,

Dan

Incidentally, is it really 'all road', as it just looks like an estate to me?

My mistake, here you can clearly see it on a very slight incline :p

You want more than that. They are selling them with over £2500 off list.

Ah right, I might go for leather seats to be included then. I was thinking that being a 'premium' brand that they wouldn't do too much negotiating.

I like the allroad as its 4WD without looking too much like a Chelsea tractor, plus I like the Audi look.

It might be AWD, but it won't be fantastic off road due to limited clearance. If you are actually intending on going off road, you could save a small fortune and get something more suited.

there was a chap who posted that a lot of his neighbours in farming areas use Audi estate quattro's over big 4x4s! Maybe they're more capable than we think? Again, depends where this chap is going to be driving!

A few selective quotes from WhatCar and Top Gear:

"Quattro four-wheel drive is aimed predominantly at on-road driving manners and Allroad offers only very limited off-road capabilities. More expensive than the A6 Avant that offers the same space and practicality."

"But the Allroad isn't for most people. It isn't even for some. It's for an odd bunch who need the occasional benefits of better ground clearance but don't want the image, expense and bulk of an SUV. People who probably are, in fact, on to something. Point being, the Allroad is all the SUV most of us will ever need. "

I've got a A6 Avant 3.0 TDI which is the same engine/transmission as the all road and also has AWD.

Your going to get fleeced unless you do your homework on this.... For info I got £10,000 of my Audi from list prices, and mine has boat loads of options on it.

btw, the 3.0 is a pearler of an engine, dont get talked into going with a 2.7 to save a little money!

Edit: My car "Audi A6 S-Line Avant 3.0TDI Quattro Tip in Daytona Grey (RS6 Colour) (Nav/Bose/Privacy/AMI/Leather/ElecFRSeats/BlackKit/IllumPack/HeatedFrSeats/ParkAssist/MobilePhonePrepHigh)"

The new A6 was coming out in a matter of months which had front DRL which mine doesnt have and is in a slightly lower co2 bracket, mine is 225kgm which is still good, and it was straight after Xmas in the middle of a recession, which is why i think I got the deal. Also was a AudiUK stock car, so wasnt built to spec etc. Just shows there are deals to be done. I had on my shortlist either a 530d estate or Disco3. Couldnt get as good a deal on the BMW and I got scared off on the disco due to reliability concerns.

I went on drivethedeal.com and others etc, and then got a number of dealers to try and match it in my locality. One of them came up trumps."

i reckon you should be able to get 4-5k off that car from list.

You should be able to get at least 8% off list price from an Audi dealer and 10% if you push it. For info I got over £14000 off (just under 48k list price) the new price of my 530d by buying it at 8 months old with 2200 miles on it, you sure you want to buy new when there's savings like that to be had?

I would be surprise if he got 5k off list on a new build!

With a car like that then hes better off going for a stock car as its highly likely they will all be well specced with nav/leather at least. When I bought mine, there were about 10-15 3.0TDI's and all of them had a big spec list. Nobody buys these things without leather/nav and auto transmission.

Loved our old Allroad when we had it. Expensive to fix tho, also marmite cars. I think of them as luxury Subary Foresters or Outbacks :)
