Hi Guys,

Ok this might sound a bit drastic but I've decided to sell my Canon 500D and either get a second hand 40D or 50D...

I've been offered a 40D for £360 inc RMSD :) It looks like it is in good nik but the shutter was replaced last year so sounds like it's had heavey use!

On the Bay 50D seems to be going for around £600!

I'm hoping to get around £500/550 for my 500D with Kit lens,Bag, SDHC and TriPod

So do I put more money towards a 50D but then I've got no wide lens only 28-75mm and 50mm or Get the 40D and use the money I have saved to get a Tamron/Sigma 10-20mm lens

what would you do?

I'm also going to Vegas at start of June so I think the 40D with a ulta wide lens is looking better option.

cheers

I dont understand why you would want to sell that along with the rest of your kit cos surely you'd use it on your planned trip as well as general use should you decide to go for a different body.

If I get the 40D or 50D I'd have to upgrade to CF so wouldn't need my SD Card anymore

My brother got me a Lowepro MiniTrekkerAW for Christmas so dont need my Canon 10EG Deluxe bag anymore

And the TriPod is a cheapo fullsize one that I would like to upgarde anyway with a better head etc

Personally I would get a 40D, whether I would get that 40D would depend on its condition.

From the photo's it looks like its in good condition but the new shutter is telling me that other internal bits could be on their way out too. I've asked the seller if he'll give me like a 7 day warranty worth a try lol

I would avoid. Go for a less abused camera.

I've seen plenty at £400-£420. £50 more for a camera with under 20,000 clicks and great condition is £50 worth spending IMO. Just for peace of mind.

Personally I would not sell a 500D to get a 40/50D, the upgrade just doesnt justify itself tbh its more of a side step. Obviously if the sole purpose of the upgrade is for a bigger/more solid body then fair enough but it you're losing new functionality to gain slightly better high ISO noise control which can be fixed using software 90% of the time.

I am not saying that the 500D is a better body than the 40/50D and I would probably recommend the X0D bodies if someone without a camera asks for opinions but to go out of your way to sell the 500D to side step seems abit long winded. I'd recommend if you're going to sell the 500D then save it for abit and have a look at the 550D with the 7D sensor, metering system and movie function.

Just my 2p

IQ wise it wouldn't be an upgrade but if you were looking more fps for say sports etc then maybe upgrade but you do have a good capable camera in the 500d.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advise, I've decided not to rush into anything and buy one just because it's cheap!

I would like a bigger body as I do find my hands all over the 500D though and the 6fps would be nice as my friend has a track bike and car so would be good to go and get some shots.

I'll wait untill after Vegas and see how I still feel then.
